LA Marathon Ambassador

A few weeks ago, the application process opened to become a Los Angeles Marathon Ambassador. I knew a couple of the people on the ambassador team last year (which I believe was their first year of the program but 30th year of the marathon) and they totally recommended it, so I thought, "I've never been an ambassador for a specific race before, sounds fun... Plus, what do I have to lose?!".

The first round of the application process was fairly standard - fill out a basic application telling the team a little bit about you, links to your social media accounts (since a main focus of the program is to support and endorse the race to your friends, family, and followers), etc.

I filled everything out, crossed my fingers, and hit send. Much to my surprise (mostly because, although my parents and hubby might think I am the coolest thing since sliced bread, I am a little skeptical at how others perceive me), I MADE IT TO ROUND TWO! Now they said there were hundreds of applicants, but I am not sure the exact number of how many folks applied and then were given the green light to the next round, but I MADE THE CUT!

The next round in the application process was a bit more intense... You had to make a video... The team wanted to see how you were with public speaking, put a face to the name, and gauge if you were willing to make a fool of yourself (or maybe that's just what I thought they wanted to see).

Well, I'm not sure if you have noticed or not, but there are very few (read that as "ZERO") vlogs {video blogs} on my site. It's not so much that I am nervous to speak in front of people or anything like that, but, um... maybe I am nervous to make videos that are forever on the inter-webs (talk about sending my self consciousness THROUGH THE ROOF). But, if I wanted to continue in the process, I needed to make it happen.

In the video (which could be non-edited, thank goodness), you needed to answer the following questions:

I was NOT originally planning on putting the video up for public consumption (because, like I said before, it ain't my jam - and honestly, the more times I started to watch it, the stronger my feeling to just DELETE it was), but I know a couple of the friends I sent it to got a kick out of it, so maybe you will too. (PS I won't hold it against you if you don't watch the entire video, but there is a reward towards the end if you make it through all of my nervous chatter!)

So once I made the video (I did it in one take, hence why you can hear Walt the Wiener Dog sneezing and shaking his ears in the background), I emailed it in and had to sit back and wait... And wait... And wait some more... Okay, so maybe the time between submitting the video and hearing back was only like a week and a half, but it still felt like FOR-EV-ER...

Patience

And then late last week I got an email...

ME... ONE OF TWELVE... That is pretty FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC if you ask me! And when the email said "impressive group", THEY WEREN'T KIDDING! Checking out the list included one rockstar's name after another! (We will be having an intro meeting next week up in LA and I can't wait to meet everyone in person!)

I am SO STOKED to be on this AMAZING team! And even more TRILLED to be able to participate in the 2016 LA Marathon! There will be many more posts about the upcoming race (which is 193 days away, but who's counting?) over the next few months, but I wanted to make the official announcement today!

Are you interested in joining me at the 2016 LA Marathon?

I don't know anything about the LA marathon ambassador program, but I hope it is a good one! Last year I was lucky enough to be an ambassador for the Berkeley Half Marathon, and we had a good time. (Pretty minimal job duties, which was a little disappointing, but the race kinda sells itself.)
