Hoke = Coach of the Year

Hoke Voted Big Ten Coach of the Year by Media and Coaches

The Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday (Nov. 30) that University of Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke was chosen as the Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year, as selected by conference coaches, and the Dave McClain Coach of the Year, as picked by the media.

Hoke is the sixth first-year coach to earn the McClain Coach of the Year award, which dates back to 1972 and is named for the former Wisconsin coach. This is the inaugural awarding of the Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year honor, which pays tribute to Ohio State's Woody Hayes and Michigan's Bo Schembechler.

Hoke led the Maize and Blue to a 10-2 overall record, including a 6-2 mark in Big Ten play. He is the second Michigan coach to win at least 10 games in his first season at the helm, joining Fielding Yost, who won 11 games in 1901. Hoke also became the fifth Big Ten coach to win at least 10 games in his first season as head coach, joining Wisconsin's Bret Bielema (12-1, 2006), Ohio State's Earle Bruce (11-1, 1979), Yost (11-0, 1901) and Minnesota's Henry Williams (10-0-2, 1900).

Promised Land is a unique look at this ancient place through the lives of two friends from different faiths, brought together by their love of the oceans that separate them.

Thanksgiving Carp

When we are down in Destin, we do a lot of fishing. Normally we just catch little Blue Gills or possibly turtles (we just fish off the dock that is in the backyard). Thanksgiving morning my dad caught a HUGE carp! It was big enough for us to have a Thanksgiving Feast from (if we would have kept him, but we merely Catch and Release). I think it took about 20 minutes to get him 'in the boat'. We guesstimate it was about 36 inches (measuring the recycle bin Ryan helped scoop him up in).

The video is funny because I didn't realize I was still taking video of the catch (I thought I had turned it off... as you can see, Ryan normally handles the 'nice' camera :) ).

Way To Go JV!

Justin Verlander named AL MVP

Detroit's Justin Verlander became the first starting pitcher in a quarter-century voted Most Valuable Player, adding it to the Cy Young Award he won last week.

Verlander earned the American League MVP honor Monday, receiving 13 of 28 first-place votes and 280 points in voting announced by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

"Obviously pitchers are not just written off all of a sudden because they're pitchers," Verlander said.

Boston center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury was second with four firsts and 242 points, followed by Toronto right fielder Jose Bautista with five firsts and 231 points, Yankees center fielder Curtis Granderson with 215 and Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera with 193.

"Not even in my wildest dreams had I thought of this," Verlander said. "I want to say this is a dream come true. I can't say that because my dream had already had come true ... to win a Cy Young. And the next dream is to win a World Series. This wasn't even on my radar until the talk started. And then all of a sudden it was a this-could-actually-happen type of thing."

Saved: Patrick and Sammy

After suffering depression due to his failing kidneys, Patrick received a new lease on life when he and his girlfriend adopted a dog.

WAY TO GO SAMMY!

A few days away...

LYRICS:
Verse 1
Excuse me Mr. Pryor, I ain't talkin' Richard
Ya 40 time is good, but my quicks are sicker
Wolverine Militia, 16 is the Commissioner
You don't wanna start him up, Denard'll just finish ya
So misunderstood but what's the world without dilithium
2 b*tches at the same time...Posey and Chekwa
I got these girls twisted cuz they open when you twist em
I never met Terrelle but (think) they should trade him to the Pistons.
If Sparty is little brother then the Buckeyes are her sister, Notre Dame is their cousin and I think you get the picture
And you know Justin Boren he weighs more than a glacier,
It's "all in" the family values, I'm of no relation
No matter who is buying the rings in Buckeye Nation with the Grey and Scarlett diamonds bought a 5 game suspension, we got that old money what? Buckeyes are just funny nuts, every time they go to bowls OSU is just runner ups
I don't feel like I've done enough, the Free Press has been under cut but I keep with the flow like Im underfed, hungry for some wonderbread? I'm hungry to put the last seven years to rest ..under bed
(6'7'8' bunch)
Verse 2:
Ok I lost my mind, Lebron is somewhere in Miami,
think I'm gonna get tatted up what you don't understand me,
TP got a new whip and that ish ain't a Camry
but hoes gon b hoes now tackle Boom Herron
Just talked to the sweatervest, told him he better get the players english tudors, Maurice practice on your predicates
Swear man I be seein' through these boosters and these regents, Bucknuts think they He-Men, Pow pow the end
Call it self-defense and yeah we need some defense,
6 true freshmen playing in the backfield in some sequins

Verse 3:
We need to get our weight up, we need to get the haters off our back and fade, after I leave Columbus I go get some vaccinations
World's biggest toilet bowl, evacuation
Feel like I'm engaged in character assassination
But everybody steals and kills...and worships Satan
TP is convenient right inside Ohio Stadium where they lead in all types of minor violations.
Call me crazy, call me abrasive
Don't call me sick, I'm contagious
Like a Kanye joint, we're aMAIZEn
More than bold, we're brazen
More than hot, we're blazin'
More than 110,000 fans in the stadium
(6'7'8' bunch)

Verse 4:
Worst journalism in the nation but we're caging them
Detroit to Ann Arbor, plagiarism
Grab Drew Sharp by the face and i'm erasin' him
beat him like it's practice time...investigation
They need to put Drew and Mark Snyder on probation
stick them in a jail cell and film the copulation, but they need a smaller lens or magnification

Back to the buckeyes
All you do is point fingers and call names, named our coach cHOKE like you do in bowl games
Yeah you beat the Razorbacks and the Ducks, won seven straight who gives a shucks, every dog has his day and your time is up
Just win 15 straight then you'll catch up.

Happy 25th Kyle!

Today is my brother's 25th birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY KYLE!!

Hail To The Who?

Victoria’s Secret fails with cute Michigan State T-shirt
By Graham Watson

While we appreciate Victoria's Secret's foray into cute and sexy college football apparel, it probably needs to hire someone who knows a little something about college football to proofread its designs.

The women's lingerie company came out with a Michigan State T-shirt with "Spartans" across the front and the Michigan State logo on the back. However, underneath "Spartans" the shirt reads, "Hail to the Victors."

The problem with this? Well, that's the motto/fight song of rival Michigan.

Oops.

CNBC sports business reporter Darren Rovell noticed it and pointed it out to Victoria's Secret and within a couple hours the shirt was removed from the website.

So, if you did manage to snag one of these shirts before they were pulled down, consider it a collectors item, especially if you're a Michigan fan living in East Lansing, Mich., with a quirky sense of humor.

Haircut

I need some help. I don't know what I should do with my hair. I was thinking about cutting it, but then I sort of feel guilty (because if I grew it longer then I could cut it and donate it to Locks of Love or another organization. I feel bad if I cut off say 4-6 inches when I could have grown it longer and donated 10 inches - if that makes sense). Anyway, I took a snapshot of two pictures side-by-side. The one on the left was my 25th birthday (at Disney) after I had chopped by hair. The one on the right is at the Cheboygan Brewing Company's opening over Memorial Day weekend.

What are your thoughts?! Keep growing it? Or chop it?

[PS It doesn't have to be one of these two lengths, but I thought I would at least post a picture of me with shorter hair and one with longer hair for reference]

Gossip Girl

How AWESOME! One of our friends, Anthony, started a band with this rad girl, Celeste, last year or so and call themselves 'little hurricane'. I have posted a few of their videos on my blog. They have been on tour for a while now, which is AWESOME for them, but that means we haven't seen them perform lately. They are really doing big things, and one of them was have one of their songs featured on Gossip Girl! HOW COOL IS THAT?!

The video below is the song that was featured on Gossip Girl on Monday (the episod name is ""The Big Sleep No More"" if you wanted to watch it :) ).

Fairy Seat

Ry and I bought a strand of lights last weekend when we were at the hardware store (picking up the parts for the wreath I made). We put them out on the porch, wrapping the porch railing. We haven't turned them on yet, but at least have them out there. Today the rain started. While I was getting up to get the laundry I looked out the window and saw CHUBS sitting on one of the light bulbs! Apparently the bulb was a little branch just big enough for him. And since the rain was just coming straight down he was still under the protection of the roof. I just had to get some pictures of him and his shenanigans...

Sitting in on light bulb.

I see you talking pictures of me.

Chubs, being chubby.

My fluffy feathers on my head.

Waving with one wing.

In flight.

Check out that tongue!

Hey, what are you looking at?!

I'm bored of your picture taking.

I'm a Picker

So in order to appreciate this, you have to (1) know what "American Pickers" is (a reality show on the History channel) and (2) be old enough to remember the 1970s "I'm a Pepper" television ads. Surely, the original jingle's composer (Barry Manilow did NOT write this one) must be soooo proud. Still, a credible parody. And the pickers (well, Mike at least) can actually sing! But he's no David Naughton. [sigh]

Wreath Part 2

So this is what I used to make my first homemade wreath (sorry I didn't take an process shots, but I am probably going to do it again, so I will try and take more pictures then):

Plumbing installation ($1.29 for 6 feet, I think I used about 2 feet - from Lowes):

Replacement Christmas bulbs ($.69 for 8, I used 7 of them - from a thrift store):

Grey yarn ($2.49 for 244 yards, I think I used maybe half - from Michaels):

Total spent (even though I have left overs of all of the parts I used) = $4.47

Now for the pictures of the 'finished' project [the quotes because we haven't hung it yet. It is pretty Christmas-y with the bulbs, so we may wait a couple weeks. Also, I don't know if I want it inside (like on the porch doors) or outside (on the front door)]:

What do you think? Pretty good for my first try, huh? I think next time I may use a pool noodle and see if I like the thicker wreath or the thinner wreath better. I am very proud of what I did! [PS Yes the pictures are from Ry's phone, so they are a little blurry - sorry bout that]
