It all started yesterday. It was Tom's One Day Without Shoes. I have participated in it for at least 4 or 5 years. This year was no different. (Thankfully) I had strength training on the calendar, so I didn't have to run barefoot.
The temperatures were in the 90s yesterday (they are actually saying it could be in the 100s tomorrow even at the beaches) so the blacktop was pretty warm when I was walking Walt [we don't have a yard, so when he has to handle his "business" we need to walk him]. Just another reminder of what people (especially KIDS) have to go through in places where they have no shoes!
I went over to a friend's house last night to hang out for a bit while our husbands were out celebrating a birthday. All of the kids were at the neighborhood pool, so when I got over I met them there. Once the kids were worn out (and hungry) we started packing up and heading out. While I was helping getting everything together I stubbed my toe on one of the pool chairs - and not a plastic chair, a heavy duty metal one! It hurt, of course, but I thought nothing more about it.
Fast forward to this morning. I woke up and knew something wasn't right. Even while I was laying in bed I could feel a dull pain in my foot. I was slightly worried to look at it - expecting the worst, like a broken toe or a bruised foot. Thankfully it looked okay, but once I stepped on the ground I knew it wasn't okay. My little toe, that I stubbed, wasn't what hurt, but my foot where my toe connects to my foot (like I jammed it all the way into my foot) was THROBBING.
To say I was (AND STILL AM) freaking out would be a GIANT understatement. You see, not only do I have 2 races this weekend (a trail 10K {my first trail race} and a half marathon), but my first full marathon is in less than 3 weeks!
I (OBVIOUSLY) posted about it on my Twitter and @GooberMonkey78 suggested using KT Tape. Thankfully I had some in my bathroom (I believe I got it at a race expo). I watched the YouTube video she suggested (for "top foot pain"). I have been resting (even though I had a 5 miler on the calendar for today and I am pretty anxious not completing it), icing, elevating, and praying.
GRRRRR! I think what makes it even more frustrating is that the boo-boo didn't even occur while running. It isn't like it was an overuse injury, it is just a clumsy one! (But I guess the good thing about it NOT being a running issue is that hopefully means I have been training SMART...)
I am REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hoping that with the R.I.C.E. I will be back to normal in the next day or so.
Is there anything worst to a runner than an injury?!

Dating ABCs: Y
On Sunday Ryan and I went to the Yellow Deli. {Can you believe we have almost completed our "Dating Thru The ABCs" adventure?!}
Hubs and I have been wanting to try this restaurant out for a while. A little because of the rave reviews we have heard about the food. And a little because of the experience. You see, the word around town is the folks that run the deli are in a cult. Cult or co-op, the food was YUMMY!
Ryan ordered the Yoga Vista Special (which was their version of a veggie burger) with a small side of vegetarian lentil soup. I tried the soup, which was scrum-didily-umptious, but he had scarfed down the burger before I got a chance to try it :) {HOW RUDE, J/K! I've learned that I need to SPEAK UP or I won't get a bite... He loves his food}
I built my own sandwich - a whole wheat roll with provolone cheese, sprouts, avocado, onions, and mustard (I didn't see Ketchup anywhere on the menu or on the tables and I didn't want to offend them by asking for any ;), thankfully it was delicious without it). Came with kettle chips and a pickle on the side.
I saw on one of the Yelp reviews that the cream cheese cake with strawberries was highly recommended, so why not round out our dinner with that :) We could understand why it got two thumbs up - great crust, rich cake, yumminess!
The atmosphere was relaxed (students studying or doing homework, families enjoying a meal together, etc) with fun fiddle type music playing. There was indoor and outdoor seating available. The upstairs of the restaurant (where we sat) seemed to be like a tree house with tons of amazing woodworking all around.
The only issue we run into is that their "weekend" is midday Friday until midday Sunday, meaning the times that we normally eat out (Friday dinner or Saturday) it is closed. The other five days it is open 24-hours (making it a great place for college kids to study apparently). We will definitely try to make it work again in the future though!

Fairy Feeder
I know that it is like summer all year round in Southern California, but especially with the warmer weather, Ryan and I love hanging out on our porch (and if you know anything about Walt The Wiener Dog, then you also know it is his jam too).
I LOVE watching the hummingbirds getting ready for torpor and feasting like crazy at our feeder. Last night I tried to grab a couple pictures, but of course my iPhone didn't grab the best shots.
I also was able to take a little video of the craziness that ensues at our feeder. Some nights we have up to 12 fairies trying to feed.

Hubby's FAMOUS!
Oh my goodness, I can't believe I haven't posted about this yet... I guess it is because it took almost 7 months for me to actually see the episode (we got rid of cable a while back and we couldn't find it anywhere online).
Hubby was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (on the Food Network) last year!
One of his co-workers is friends with a local restaurant owner, Haggo of Haggo's Organic Taco in Leucadia, CA. Well, when Haggo found out that Guy was coming to film the restaurant, he mentioned it to Chuck (Ryan's co-worker) and told them to come over while they were taping.
Walt the Wiener Dog was even on set, but that part got cut out (Ryan even was interviewed about it being a pet-friendly restaurant).
Unfortunately Ryan doesn't have any talking parts, but his co-workers both got to say a little something throughout the episode. It is still pretty cool to see him on TV :)
If you want to catch the episode for yourself, it is Season 17 (2013), Episode 9 (which aired on July 1, 2013). The title of the episode is "From Pound Cake to Pot Pie". We found it (and bought it, of course) on iTunes.

Even vegetarians have options to lick their lips over at Haggo's! |

I can't believe my first full marathon is only three weeks away. I also can't believe I ran my first 20-miler this week! I am hoping once my legs are rested (they felt pretty heavy for my long run this week) that on race day I will be ready to go. No more "long" runs left... Next weekend I have a trail 10K race and a half marathon and then it is TAPER TIME!
How were your workouts this past week?
