Thursday Triumph: Rest

Another Thursday, another day to CELEBRATE the triumphs in our lives - whether they are large or small. I truly believe it is important to recognize them NO MATTER WHAT! {Link up with me, Smitha, and Linzie to honor what is going right in your life currently!}

Today's Triumph:

REST.

I know, that sounds weird, but I am finally RESTING! For over a year now I have been in a continual state of training. I ran my first marathon on May 18th, 2014. This past weekend I ran my fourth full (on May 10th, 2015). [Not to mention all of the halves, fun runs, 10Ks, etc chalked up during that time frame as well...]

I guess in my mind I was thinking that it is easier to stay in shape than get in shape, so once I was "in" marathon shape - why not stay there and just try to get in as many as possible?!

During my past rounds of training, when I had a rest day I would feel a twinge of guilty or laziness. Honestly, it was hard to know what to do on a rest day...

I never truly got the idea of rest (meaning YOUR BODY NEEDS IT TO RECOUP AND GET STRONGER). Maybe it's the Type A personality in me, maybe it is the competitor in me (competing with myself to be better than the day before), or maybe it is just the fact that I am still a newbie when it comes to running and don't know everything am still figuring everything out.

But suffice it to say, since running the Eugene Marathon on Sunday I haven't run a single mile (sure, I jog along with Walt to get out some of his energy, but haven't gone for a "legit" run since the race). And better yet... I have been totally fine with it!

So much rest, in fact, that I have missed my daily step count
for the past two days (I did cringe slightly, but have to remind
myself that it is OKAY... at least for the next few days!).

Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE running. (Ryan and I will be running a 10K next weekend and I have a 5K and Half Marathon the following weekend.) I am not going to be sitting idle for long {if you missed yesterday's post, I HAVE THE NEED FOR SPEED and I'm gonna work my butt off to get there!}, but I am basking in the idea of taking the past few days off and feeling GREAT about it. Allowing myself to rest has been AWESOMESAUCE!

What are you triumphing in lately?!

Here are all the RULES you need to know to participate in the Thursday Triumph LinkUp!
     1. Linzie, Smitha and I will start the LinkUp Post every Wednesday night by 11:59 EST. It will be hosted here, on Sharp Endurance and on Running With SD Mom. You can link up your posts any day of the week but the most common day to do so is Thursday. The post can be about any TRIUMPH in your life! Each linkup will be open for one week only.
     2. Entries that are not associated with a POST or just linked to your homepage will be deleted.
     3. Link back to
Running With SD MomSharp Endurance & Carlee McDot so others can add their link and find others too! You can use the above graphic if you'd like!
     4. MOST IMPORTANT: You MUST visit the person's blog who linked up directly before you and leave them a motivating comment and share their POST. This is the most important part of the linkup. We want lots of links and we want to help each other out. This is MANDATORY!
     5. Void where prohibited.

Excited to be part of your Thursday Triumph linkup for the first time! Thanks for having me! I envy your ability to fight rest...for me, it's so easy to skip fitness and just rest. But good for you - doing what's right for you!~
Cheers from Bradley on the Run!

this post was just what I needed to read today! Most like you, I have been going NONSTOP since August with 15 rundisney races, 2 other half marathons, 3 10ks, and 3 5ks since last August. Not to mention I have been working full time and also be going to school full-time. Life has been crazy so I am loving the rest I am giving my body this week. I am hoping it will allow me to come back as strong as ever for these crazy summer training runs.
