The Community

I plan on writing my recap for the Eugene Marathon over the next couple days, but the brief synopsis is - I didn't hit my goal A or B. By mile 12 I knew I wasn't going to BQ (Boston Qualify), so I decided to pull back (or maybe my body forced me to) and enjoyed the rest of the course. I finished with a SMILE and a time around 3:48.

With that being said, I wanted to write a quick post about how AMAZING the running community is. Below are just a FEW of the text messages I have received over the last couple days...

That isn't even including the countless Instagram comments, tweets, Facebook messages, etc (BTW I have been trying to stay on top of them to thank everyone individually, but if I miss any - please know how much each and every note means to me!). The love has just been pouring out of the woodwork! I am beyond blessed to have so many amazing people in my life! I tear up every time I see notes about how much of an inspiration I am - what?! ME?! No way, Jose! I'm just over here, doing me and trying to make a difference in my little corner of the world... Guess I might actually be doing it!

Sometimes Runners make the BEST friends. Don't get me wrong, my non-running friends are AMAZEBALLS too, but runners understand the craziness of my passion for running (and even support it).

And did you know?! #WeRunSocial was launched last week for JUST THIS SORT OF THANG! Make sure to read Pavement Runner's blog post about it here, but the gist of it is a supportive, fun-loving, insanely encouraging running crew with the only requirement being "BE GOOD PEOPLE".

Do you love running? Do you love social media? Then you should be a part of #WeRunSocial. And the BEST part about it?! YOU ARE IN! No applications, no interviews - if you want in, YOU ARE IN! Start using the hashtag #WeRunSocial, follow on Instagram (@WeRunSocial) and Twitter (@WeRunSocial), like on Facebook (/WeRunSocial). We plan on taking OVER races, the Twitter-sphere, Instagram-land, etc. YOU DON'T WANNA MISS IT! Make sure you follow EVERYWHERE so you aren't left out (and so you can take part in this love-fest!)!

(Not to mention, hubby helped design the logo, so you should "join" just for that!)

I will never be an elite athlete - I run for fun (and actually PAY to do it, so you better believe I am going to enjoy every step of it that I can). Running is a hobby I started about 3 years ago and have fallen in love with it. I am forever grateful for all of the fan-freakin'-tastic people running has brought into my life (which is probably why I am sounding a little pushy about this whole #WeRunSocial thing, but I just know how much my life has improved once I started running and was immersed in the fabulous culture that is running!).

Do you have a community you feel at home in?

Awesome job and I agree 300%...the running community is THE BEST!!!!!! I also raced this weekend and didn't really come close to my goal, but that's ok. It is not all about the time. A goal time is great to have and work for but that is just such a small part of it! Great job!

LOVE everything about this and how the community is so embracing and encouraging. You've been killing it a lot lately and 3:48 is nothing to shake a stick at (who shakes sticks?!?). Be proud and congrats.
