This morning I woke up to Ryan telling me that his sister had texted him and said a tsunami was on its way. Now this is not as freaky a way to find out as the FIRST tsunami we lived through. We were in Waikiki last year on a family vacation and all of the sirens started going off in the hotel. We were supposed to go to the airport to catch our flight back home and we were told no one was allowed to leave the hotel, that we had to go to floor 3 or higher, and we just had to wait it out. I was just reading one of the articles and it looks like thats what they already were doing there [Residents in coastal areas of Hawaii were sent to refuge areas at community centers and schools while tourists in Waikiki were moved to higher floors of their high-rise hotels. People waited in long lines stocking up on gas, bottled water, canned food and generators, and officials told residents to stock up on water and fill their cars with gas.] With that being said, Ryan is out surfing right now, but said he will be 'careful'. The waves are supposed to hit SoCal around 8-8:30am PST this morning. They are saying probably 2 feet, which doesn't seem like a high wave (and comparatively to other places getting hit it isn't), but it is a LARGE surge of water that will still probably hit. I am sure you can find a kazillion and a half articles about the earthquake that hit Japan and the tsunami that is resulting, but I guess I also have a little first hand knowledge. We survived the tsunami of 2010 and now we will survive the tsunami of 2011 :)
PS The article here I was reading that I quoted above can be found here.
