An AM Tempo Run & Waivers

Last night Ryan and I had a few errands to run after he got off work (although he bought a truck this weekend, it is currently at the shop to make sure everything is in tip-top shape). While we were running around town we decided to grab some Mexican (why, yes, it IS my FAVORITE, I am so glad you noticed ;) ). I normally get a smaller dinner because I eat #AllTheChipsAndSalsa, and last night was no exception.

While I was setting my alarm to wake up for this morning's tempo run I had an inkling that all of the salsa might not have been the best idea for an early AM run... And I guessed right. My tummy was a little upset when I woke up around 4am (no, my alarm wasn't set for then, but my body normally doesn't let me sleep until then... worried I will sleep through it I guess). At least it was just a training run and not a race - duly noted, do not eat copious amounts of salsa the night before a race.

By the time I got down to the beach around 5:15 for my five miles my stomach was a bit more settled, but still awfully gurgly... Although we have been teased with some fall like weather (at least it has been overcast the last few mornings), it was still on the warmer and stickier side.

This was by the time I finished... When I started it was 68*

I had 5 miles on the calendar today (for the last few weeks my tempo runs have all been 6 miles, so I was surprised to see a lower number on the schedule). My tempo pace is 8:04/mile and I was able to keep them all under that pace - YIPEEEEEE!

With my recent tempo runs, I am actually looking forward to the 5 Mile race I am running Thanksgiving morning (I will be doing the 5-Miler portion of the Oceanside Turkey Trot for time and then the 5K portion with some of our friends' kids). Originally I thought I would LOVE to break 40 minutes, but honestly didn't think it was a possibility (I was actually so anxious about it I didn't even want to say my goal time out-loud, worrying that I would never be able to hit it). 8 minute miles were tough for me. And don't get me wrong, sub 8 minute miles (even if I am only under the bar by a few seconds) are not easy for me by any means, but at least I see they are a possibility for me. I can at least keep them up for a 10K distance or so (which reminds me, I think need to find a 10K that I can run for time soon and maybe PR...).

I may never be fast, I may never qualify for the Boston Marathon, but you know what?! I am faster and stronger than I was yesterday, last week, and definitely last year. I am giving it my all (and smiling in the process) - and THAT is what matters :)

PS Just in case any of you are running the runDisney Avengers Half, the waivers are up!! Now I REALLY need to get on my costume!

Any suggestions for my Avengers costume? I have plenty of red, white and blue gear for Captain America, but am trying to go a little more creative than that...

I'm not an avid comic book reader but if you have a lot of red you could probably pull off Scarlet Witch since she's going to be in Avengers 2 next year. I'm kind of dreading all of the Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor costumes that morning....haha
