Grandpa's Obituary

They won't be having a funeral, just a showing and then a mass on Monday.

Robert C. VanSlambrouck

Robert C. VanSlambrouck, age 84 of Monroe, died Friday, June 17, 2011 in his home. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church where Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Stephen Vileo, pastor of St. Michael’s Church will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe with military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 1138 Monroe. Funeral arrangements provided by Rupp Funeral Home. Born June 18, 1926 in Monroe, he was the son of Bernard and Lois (Mack) VanSlambrouck. He married Marion E. Stoddard on April 24, 1946 in St. Mary’s Church. Bob honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII serving from May 23, 1944 to August 3, 1945. He served in the South Pacific and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Purple Heart. He worked at Consolidated Paper, Southside as a set up man in the gluing department for 34 years and Modern Packaging where he was a foreman for 2 years. Afterward, he performed maintenance work for Standard Federal Bank for 9 years. Bob was a member of St. Michael Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1266, and a life member of Disabled American Veteran’s. He is survived by his wife Marion; son Daniel R. (Patricia A.) VanSlambrouck of Northwood, Ohio; two daughters, Sharon M. Poore of North Port, Florida and Susan E. (Paul) Padot of Temperance, Michigan; two brothers, John F. (Joan) VanSlambrouck of Monroe and Richard J. (Anita) VanSlambrouck of Poughkeepsie, New York; two sisters, Sylvia M. Glavin of Maggie Valley, North Carolina and JoAnn E. Ozdaglar of Northville, Michigan; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Thomas, William, James, and Eugene VanSlambrouck.
