Monday Musings

Today has been quite the day already! I hope your Monday is off to a BANGARANG start! (I know, Mondays get a bad wrap, but we shouldn't wish days away, no matter if they start with "Mon" or "Fri". They can ALL be FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC... Some just take a little more magic than others ;))

I started off today with a 10 mile run. I didn't have to work today and my last two runs have been a little slower than I would have liked (yesterday I ran with the hubby for 6 miles of #SundayRunday and I will ALWAYS run his pace with him as long as he wants to go out and run), so I wanted to see if I could pick it up a bit. (I was getting in my head, thinking that adding distance was slowing me down and it was really bumming me out.)

Ten miles is a little too long for me to do as a speed workout, so I figured I would just try and keep them at or around 9:00/mile pace. (They normally say your long runs should be about 60-90 seconds slower than race pace, so if I am shooting for a 8:00/mile marathon my long runs should range from 9:00-9:30/mile.)

The humidity was SUCKTASTIC, but at least there was a bit of cloud cover and the temperature hadn't started to climb too much when I left around 9am (with the late start I was very grateful for the clouds and cool).

The first mile includes my uphill, so it is usually always a bit slower. My second mile includes a decent downhill, so it is normally a bit faster. I didn't really look at the pace when my watch beeped though so I didn't know what I was really working with. Starting around mile 3 I thought "I wonder if I could make this a progression run". The only issue is, I forgot to remember what my earlier splits were, so I decided from "that point on" I would try and get faster throughout the run. I guess you could say I succeeded ;)

By the time I got back I was DRENCHED in sweat... Thankfully I brought my handheld water bottle with me, though, because man that 90% humidity can really wear on you (and your hydration game)! Not sure if you can tell in the pictures, but my Run All Day tee was totally two different colors...

I've had a couple people ask me about wearing Pro Compression Marathon socks in the heat or humidity. Normally my legs aren't the things that feel like they are sweating or overheating (fun fact: my elbow-pits are the first thing to sweat on me), so I have never really had an issue. I tend to wear the "long" socks for runs over 8 or so miles and my "lows" for runs of shorter distances.

And with that, when I got home, I checked my email and saw the Sock Of The Month message for Pro Compression. Um.... Can you say RAINBOW BRIGHT?! And if you use code "RNBW" you can save $20 AND get free shipping!

Now I normally try not to fill the weekend with chores because I don't like doing them with the hubby home. Not only does he tend to get in the way (just speaking the truth), but I'd rather spend the time enjoying one another than doing meaningless tasks. So along with my run, I have been able to get done 3 loads of laundry, shipped some giveaway prizes, vacuumed the house, and emptied the dishwasher AND I still have 3 hours before Ryan gets home from work to get more things accomplished!

And I know normally I am the one with the "luck" when it comes to winning contests (I mean, someone HAS to win, so why not throw your name in the hat?!), but today the luck was ALL on my MOM'S SIDE! She won ALL SIX new #SparklyUSA headbands from Sparkly Soul! What a lucky duck?! I'm not-so-secretly hoping maybe she will gift the anchor one to me for my birthday (I mean obviously I would love them all but they are HER winnings ;))

And with that, I am off to conquer more of the day! And by conquer the day, I may just catch up on a Real Housewives or two :) I mean, I did have a very productive morning!

How has your Monday been?!

Great run!!! I run my long runs about 60 seconds slower than goal pace and have heard 30-60, 60-90, 90-120!! Lol!!! I think as long as you find a range you're comfortable with as long as it's slower :)

Way to show Monday who's boss!!
