Last Day

I don't think I have mentioned it on here yet, so I figured it was about time. Yesterday was my last day at Review Boost. We were told 2 Mondays ago that we would be moving offices to Carlsbad (which is still close, but wouldn't be worth it on my scoot-scoot, especially for the pay). I told them that I wouldn't be moving with them and that yesterday (the day before the move) would be my last day. We were then told on Thursday that the phone and internet wasn't going to be set up at the new place by Monday, so they weren't going to move for maybe another 2 weeks. They had already been interviewing for my position and since we are going on vacation next week if I would have stayed it would have only been a partial week, so I still decided to have Friday be my last day. The sweet girls in the office got me a cheesecake, balloons, signed a card, etc. It was an interesting few months there, but I met some awesome people and we had a lot of laughs and have a lot of stories to tell :)

PS The picture was obviously taken by Ryan once he got home, but you get the idea. I rode home with the balloons tied to the scoot-scoot (I hope I made a lot of people smile/ chuckle when they saw me).

Condo For Sale

The condo downstairs from us went up for sale yesterday. Ryan and I were talking about how it would be cool if we could buy it and then just build an indoor staircase and make one giant condo - along with a two car garage by just knocking down the wall between them. Then we decided that we would have to pay 2 HOA fees... OH YEAH, and BUY another condo :). But I did want to throw it out there in case you were interested or know someone that is (hint, hint MOM AND DAD), let me know and I can send you some more info on it. (It is 2 bedroom, 2 bath, a little over 900 square feet, etc).

Mystery Meat?

Ingredients in Taco Bell's meat aren't mysterious

The fast-food chain is facing a false-advertising lawsuit that alleges its seasoned beef is mostly fillers. But several experts say the additives are quite common in processed foods.

Taco Bell fans have spent the last week wondering what's really in their meals after a lawsuit was filed alleging that the popular fast-food chain's meat contains a whole lot of mystery.

Some consumers cringed at the term "taco meat filling," which is how the lawsuit says Taco Bell should advertise its seasoned beef. It alleges that the product contains mostly substances other than beef.

Taco Bell Corp., a Yum Brands Inc. subsidiary based in Irvine, has fired back, refuting the lawsuit's allegations and defending its menu ingredients.

As it turns out, the lawsuit's allegations — and the stomach-churning terminology — hinge partly on regulatory language that is meant to be used by manufacturers for labeling purposes, not restaurants. There also aren't any hard rules that define what a company or restaurant can advertise as meat.

"Obviously you know it's not 100% organic food," said Taco Bell customer Bethany Weis, 23, of Chicago. "I know it's not good for me. I still like it."

In striking back against the suit, Taco Bell states that its beef recipe is 88% beef and 12% seasonings, spices, water and other ingredients. Some of those "other ingredients" aren't things you are likely to add to your own beef for family taco night, but several experts say the additives are quite common in processed foods.

Ground Hogs Day

Punxsutawney Phil predicts an early spring

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – The world's most famous groundhog predicted an early spring Wednesday, but wasn't willing to go out on a limb to forecast whether the nearby Pittsburgh Steelers will win Sunday's Super Bowl.

Punxsutawney Phil emerged just after dawn on Groundhog Day to make his 125th annual weather forecast in front of a smaller-than-usual crowd who braved muddy, icy conditions to hear his handlers reveal that he had not seen his shadow.

Including Wednesday's forecast, Phil has seen his shadow 98 times and hasn't seen it just 16 times since 1887, according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club's Inner Circle, which runs the event. There are no records for the remaining years, though the group has never failed to issue a forecast.

Two years ago, Phil's forecast also acknowledged the Pittsburgh Steelers' Super Bowl XLIII win the night before. This year, Sunday's game was mentioned in the forecast but no winner was predicted between the Steelers and the Green Bay Packers, who meet in Dallas for Super Bowl XLV.
