Rock My World + Parq Nightclub Sunrise Workout

I received an email last week (while we were still off the grid) from Rock My World. You see, I have worked with Rock My Run (a running playlist app) on occasions with Sparkle Athletic and they apparently have liked what I've done with them (YAY!). They were having a beta launch "party" and invited me to join. The event would be a morning workout inside San Diego's #1 nightclub, complete with live DJ, awesome trainer and sponsored by Suja and Kind Bar.

When I clicked on the link for more information I saw that one of my sweet friends, Sheri, was actually going to be the AWESOME trainer for the day and knew right away that I needed to sign up! #FriendsSupportingFriends

They offered two class times - 6:30am and 7:30am. Since I live about an hour away from downtown San Diego and I knew the commuter traffic would get worse the later in the morning I waited, I thought I'd pick the earlier class.

You know I've always gotta #KeepItReal, so let me be upfront with you all and say I'm not (and never have been) a club girl. Maybe it's because this white girl can't dance or maybe it's because I'm too frugal to spend boo-coo bucks on drinks and cover charges or maybe it's because I'd prefer to be in bed at 8pm rather than starting to get ready to head out - but whatever the case, I've never been big into that scene. Nevertheless I thought it'd be cool to experience the excitement of a nightclub sweat session without the morning headache.

My alarm went off at 4:45am so I could wake up, check social media (#priorities), eat a little breakfast, get ready and leave by 5:30am. [Please tell me I'm not the only one who wakes up earlier for running/ workouts than for "real life".]

Thankfully there was little traffic on the roads at that hour and I was able to get downtown with no issues. Parking on the other hand... well, let's just say parallel parking isn't my strong suit, but I was able to find a spot fairly easily. The folks from Rock My World had emailed us a waiver the night before, which helped to speed up the check-in process.

Jokes on YOU, Google, they are open
and waiting for me to arrive ;)

I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. After a friendly welcome from the crew, we were led back to the nightclub portion (there is also a restaurant up front). There were yoga mats set up all around the main stage with mini water bottles (super helpful since I forgot my water in the car). I grabbed a mat in the middle and walked around a bit to snap a couple pictures. #BloggerLife

The view when you walked back into the "club"

Thanks to the sponsors for making the event possible!

Suja brought some of their new line (Drinking Vinegar) - think ACV but yummier

I didn't realize there would be a "character stop", but you know
I was all about it!

Once we got closer to 6:30am it was time for Sheri to introduce herself and give a little welcome. Although I've run with her before, I've never taken a group fitness class of hers so was pumped to see her ROCK it.

The class was approximately 40 minutes long (I forgot to stop my watch until I got back to my car and it had 50 minutes of "workout" time). It was more of a bootcamp type class - with short bursts of exercises ranging from planks and push ups to squats and lunges. Sheri would explain the upcoming move(s) while we stood in a squat and then start the timer. Some of the exercises were partner based (lots of smiles and high-fives), while others were pushing us personally to our max. She would always show a "standard", "advanced" and "modified" option. Seeing as my legs were still feeling the previous day's hill repeat workout (and knew I still had a run afterwards) I stuck with the standard option on most moves. I definitely got my sweat on and walked away with a huge smile on my face, ready to tackle the day.

Robin, myself and Sheri after getting our workout on.

Obviously with a class coming in right after ours, there wasn't much time to chat and socialize, but the crew did a great job on letting us mingle and grab a couple snacks from the sponsors before most people left.

Poppin' bottles... of Suja that is ;)

Although there was a little traffic on the way home, I was still able to get back by 8:30am to make the hubby and pup breakfast before waking them up and heading out for my run. I'd say that is productive Hump Day!

Thanks again to Rock My World for the invite, to Sheri for always encouraging positive and healthy lifestyles, to Suja and Kind Bar for sponsoring the event and to Parq for opening their venue for a different kind of "party".

Where is the strangest place you've ever taken a fitness class?
