Walking

We live about a mile and a half from where we used to live. The bank and post office were about a block away from our old apartment. It seems as though those are still the closest ones to us, which means I have been getting used to walking to them.

Today was the first time I had to walk to them since being back from Haiti. It was so weird to leave our complex and not have 1-6 Haitian street kids holding my hands. I mean, I was thankful to realize that we live in such a place where 'street kids' aren't as prevalent, but at the same time I was sad. I was sad that we live in a culture that says love (and God) is not enough. As soon as you walked out of the gates at the Mission you would have up to 6 kids wanting to hold your hands, arms, and just be with you. They were content just being with you. They were happy to walk 10 miles with you. They didn't care that we spoke very little of the same language (I don't even know if you could call what we were speaking Creole :) ).

Adam said something very powerful that I remembered when I was on the way back from the post office. He said that he wished his relationship with God could be like the relationship the kids had with us. He wants to be content just being with God, being in His presence.

I want to live in a place where LOVE IS ALL WE NEED.

House Updates

While I was in Haiti, Ryan's dad came out to visit. While he was out the two of them got most of the things crossed off the Honey Do list :) Check out the pictures of some of the updates:

Sea Glass

A Shore Thing

People are getting very serious about sea glass.

While there is less of it on beaches than ever before—because of recycling, sand replenishment, and rising water levels—interest in collecting “mermaid’s tears” has only grown in intensity. To get to the best sites, extreme glassers will “hike for two hours, windsurf, jet-ski long distances, even rappel down cliffs, whatever it takes,” says “Godfather of Sea Glass” Richard LaMotte, whose self-published Pure Sea Glass has sold 85,000 copies. Individual pieces sell for up to $300, jewelry can run into the thousands, and sea glass’s comforting hues are increasingly popular for home decorating.

Pictures

I have posted my pictures on Facebook and my Google account. I haven't put up any of the captions yet, but at least you can get an idea of what went on for the past 2 weeks. I hope to put up captions later this week (before I forget what the pictures are of and the stories that go along with them), so feel free to keep checking back to see if the captions are up.

Also, we will be having a debrief meeting in a couple weeks, where we are planning on exchanging pictures, so I will have lots more in a few weeks!! :)

I'm Back

I have returned to the States. It will probably take me a few days to get back into the swing of blogging and getting all of my pictures, videos, etc posted, but just know I am working on it. [I also seemed to have caught some sort of bug on the way back, so I am a little sluggish as of late]
