Motivational Mondays: Katrina Elle

I started a new blog series last week - "Motivational Mondays". I first featured the amazing RunEMZ. If you missed it (which hopefully you didn't, cause it was AWESOME), make sure to check it out here - and while you are at it, you should probably subscribe to my blog so you don't miss any future posts :)

Now on to Week #2 of the Series - Kat from Katrina Elle.

I first "met" Kat through runDisney. Now met is in quotations because we still haven't technically met IRL (in real life). We connected through Twitter, our blogs, and other blends (blogger friends). She is a SUPER amazing woman and is actually the one that got me started with PiYo. I love how real she is - always willing to chat about where she came from, how things did or didn't work, and what she is currently doing to better herself. [You can see what I mean by her recent post titled 'A chat with the "Old" Me'.] She is a constant motivation for me, hopefully she will be the same for you!

When did the running bug first bite you? What is your running story?

I started to run in 2007 but it wasn't until 2012 when I discovered I wanted to tackle some hard things I never thought I'd try such as running 6 half marathons in 6 months as well as running a full marathon. As an asthmatic, I wanted to do races I never felt possible so that I could inspire myself and others!

How do you balance it all (especially since most of us have other 9-5 jobs, families, friends, commitments, etc)?

Prioritization and planning! I schedule everything from my workouts to my blog posts to my classes and time with friends and family!

What does your training/ routine look like?

I try to do run intervals for cardio once a week, HIIT cardio on the stair machine or with jump rope and agility training 3 times a week, strength training 4 days a week.

If you could impart one piece of advice/ wisdom for someone starting their running journey, what would it be?

REALIZE THE POWER OF ONE! ONE step at a time, ONE change at a time, ONE day at a time, ONE meal at a time...don't rush through your goal or you will see it as impossible and overwhelming.

What is one of your recent accomplishments you are most proud of?

Being an instructor for Insanity for the past year that's been a huge accomplishment for me. I got over my fear of public speaking and am now an out of control (in a fun way) Insaniac who tries to grow her tribe! Anyone can do a tough workout like it with the right modifications and proper form! I'm proud of my fellow students!

What are some of your favorites (i.e. foods, workouts, fuels, gear, etc)? Anything you can't live without (other than running and oxygen of course ;))?

Oh man! I LOVE my Reebok Nanos for training and teaching! I also love to eat spinach and broccoli almost daily lol. weird I know! I'd love to keep my hubby and pug with me forever and always - they're my support system and besties!

If you could do it all over again, is there anything you would change?

Hmm, I think I would have done it the hard way from the beginning - not take shortcuts or look for life cheats all of the time. The yo yo diets I tried didn't work, hard work and lifestyle changes did!

And don't forget your Social Media links - how can we follow you?

I have some majorly motivating folks in my life and am so grateful for each and every one of them. Hopefully I get to see Kat soon (although our Facebook chats and Google Hangouts have been fun ;)) and shoot, if I'm lucky, maybe I'll be able to sit in on one of her classes and she can kick my booty in person!

What do you think? Are you as excited about these Monday posts as I am? Did I leave out any questions you would have asked?
