Mikey

Look who Ryan found on Petfinder.com today!!

Name: Mikey
Age: 1 Year
Color: Black and Tan Dapple
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Tweenie - 13 lbs.

We rescued Mikey from the Pasadena SPCA. They called us about a doxie that was very skittish and did not pass their temperament test. Mikey was very frightened when we brought him to his new foster home. We had to leave a leash on him for three days so we could get him back into the house once he went outside. He behaved like he had been mistreated and was never allowed indoors. He was a challenge.
After a few days in his very experienced foster home, he calmed down a lot and began to open up. He no longer needed to have a leash on, because he now went in and out on his own, following his foster brothers and sisters as they went about their daily routines of eating, playing, napping, and getting love from their foster parents. Mikey learned that people can be very nice and give huggies and belly rubs as well as really yummy food.
An extremely handsome boy, Mikey has become loving and affectionate with his foster mom. We are still working on his relationship with the foster dad. Mikey will bark at him when he enters the room, but that's about all he does. As time goes by, even that reaction is diminishing. He gets along well with other dogs, but he must eat in his crate as he is protective of his food bowl. We believe he had to share a community food dish in his former home, and he did not get enough to eat. He would be happiest in a quiet home with a person who works part time or from home. Please, no young children for Mikey. Teens would be OK, especially girls. He would also very much enjoy having a mellow female dachshund for companionship and to mentor him.
