Hair Donation

Last night I got my hair chopped so I could donate it. This is the third time in the last 6ish years that I have been able to do it. I am blessed to have hair that grows quickly, so I use my "gift" to try and help others :)

Now please don't take this as I am trying to toot my own horn or get some sort of accolades. Actually, I thought I would use this as a way to remind folks that we are able to GIVE in ways that are outside of the box of just opening up our wallets and forking over cash. We can all do something to make the world a better place.

What about going through your closet and donating clothes you no longer wear? You could host a bake sale, garage sale, lemonade stand and give the proceeds to a charity. What about instead of giving gifts to friends for Christmas, you donate in their honor to a cause that is near and dear to their heart? One thing we did, was instead of wedding favors, we decided to donate the money we would have spent (the charity even provided us with post cards describing how the funds would be used, which we put at our guests' place settings). You could pick up trash along one of your favorite running routes one afternoon (and get the whole family or running group to help). What about the next time you are baking you double your batch and deliver some goodies to the local fire department or police station? You could volunteer at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. How about singing carols at a local senior center around the holidays? One of the classes my hubby took (remember, he was in the Art School), they actually went to the Humane Society and walked puppies every week. What about collecting items from your co-workers and delivering them to a local food pantry twice a year?

The possibilities are ENDLESS. There are so many different ways we can do good and make a difference in the lives of those around us... But the first step is you have to DO something!

What is your favorite way to bless others?

This is such an important message that I wish more people would understand. Money isn't the only way to help others.

This is a wonderful post, with wonderful suggestions. Too often we 'talk' about doing, but don't 'DO'.
