Tight QB Race?

Michigan's tight QB race will be a fight to the fall

Ann Arbor -- Don't expect Michigan to name a starting quarterback until the fall. The race is that close.

Sophomores Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson, along with freshman early enrollee Devin Gardner, apparently are neck-and-neck-and-neck this spring.

"They're in a battle -- no question they're in a battle for it," Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said Tuesday during a news conference before practice. "(Forcier and Robinson have) probably split equal reps with the first group, and we'll continue to do that throughout the spring and see if somebody separates themselves or get better."

Forcier enrolled early last season and went through spring practice. For Robinson, the backup to Forcier last season, and Gardner, this is their first experience in the spring at Michigan.

Any thought that Forcier would have the edge because he was the starter last season and had the additional spring is inaccurate. Rodriguez said Forcier is responding to the challenge in practice.
