Free Donuts

Free Dunkin' Donut on June 4

In honor of National Doughnut Day, on June 4th Dunkin' Donuts will be offering customers a free doughnut of their choice with the purchase of any beverage.

National Doughnut Day has occurred on the first Friday of June every year since 1938, when the Salvation Army first honored the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. "Donuts have a special place in our country's history and culture," said John Costello, Chief Global Customer and Marketing Officer at Dunkin' Brands. He added that "this classic American snack...[brings] people together at home, work and at play."

In-And-Out?

Is In-N-Out Burger Moving East?

Rumors are running amuck that In-N-Out Burger, the fast-food chain with a cult-like following, is continuing its molasses-like expansion beyond California borders with plans for a restaurant in Texas. If true, the rumored restaurant outside of Dallas would expand the chain into its fifth state.

This would be mouthwatering news for fans of the double-double "animal style" burgers and fresh-cut fries. The rumor went viral on social-media sites, with the most popular type of post following the lines of: "Texas next, then [insert your state here]."

Annual Passes

Our annual passes for Disneyland end this weekend. I think that the $15 a month we paid was the BEST $15 a month we have EVER spent. Okay, okay, maybe not that far, but I really did love having the passes this year. Ryan has a half day tomorrow so we are going to head there for the evening - YAY!! We will probably get annual passes again, but since the summer is blacked out, we think we will wait until after the summer to buy them (closer to our birthdays so that we can use birthday funds :) ). So be on the look out for some more Disney pictures.

SYTYCD

Whoo hoo. So You Think You Can Dance starts up again tonight. I am pumped. I am also excited that the All Stars are coming back to be their partners. Check out more changes about the new season here.

LAW!

Obama Said YES!

May 24, 2010 Ben, Jason and Laren stood in the Oval Office as President Obama signed the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act into law. We were invited to be a part of this because of what's been accomplished with your support since our first national tour in 2005 - Thank you!

Poker Face

I have to say, I like Glee's version of Poker Face MUCH better than the original :)

And every time I see Idina Menzel on Glee I just have to bust into some Rent songs :)

Videos

Videos I took while at the Toledo Zoo. Polar bears and birds.

Memorial Day

Geo Caches

Mom and I went geo caching a few times while I was back in Michigan. We found 9 caches AND PLACED TWO!! If you geo cache around the Temperance area, you should check out our two caches - Tangle WOODS (GC290QY) and Fall To Your Knees (GC294K3).

A sign along the 'prayer path' that we placed one of our caches.

We found one at the Uncle Sam.

We picked up 5 travel bugs along the way, all of which wanted to travel the world, so I brought them back to Cali with me. With that being said, we will probably be out caching this weekend so we can drop them off.

Puppies

Of course I had to take a couple of pictures of the puppies while at my parents house.

Tucker is the one with the white face. Quincey is the one with the dark face.

And just in case you are confused (like most people are when they see them) - they are long haired dapple dachshunds.

Birdies

Mom had mentioned a few weeks ago that they had a robin's nest in their wreath on the front door. Then it was destroyed (she thinks it may have been the cardinals... but now we think it may be the COWBIRDS!). When I get there a new nest was being constructed :). We would check the progress at night (so that we wouldn't scare the birds away while they were building). It kept growing and taking shape. Then one day there was a litte blue-ish - green-ish egg. Then the next day there was a second egg, but it was different (larger a speckled, like a malted milk ball). I told her that they must be sharing a nest, but no one believed me. Then day three a third egg, and then a fourth and fifth! They just kept coming!! Finally we decided to do some research. We thought it was a wren, but now we think it is a HOUSE FINCH and COWBIRDS!

Cowbirds - Cowbirds are birds belonging to the genus Molothrus in the family Icteridae. They are brood parasitic New World birds which are unrelated to the Old World cuckoos, one of which, the Common Cuckoo, is the best-known brood parasitic bird. These birds feed on insects, including the large numbers that may be stirred up by cattle. In order for the birds to remain mobile and stay with the herd, they have adapted by laying their eggs in other birds' nests. The cowbird will watch for when its host lays eggs, and when the nest is left unattended, the female will come in and lay its own eggs. The female cowbird may continue to observe the nest after laying her eggs. If the cowbird egg is removed, the female cowbird may destroy the host's eggs.

Mom now has to decide whether or not ti take the Cowbird eggs out of the nest or wait for the 'circle of life' to take place.

More to come when the birdies are born (and possibly killed - EEKS).

Cedar Point

We (mom, my brother, his friend, and I) HAD to hit up AMERICA'S ROLLER COAST - Cedar Point :). It was pretty busy (it was the first week it was open), but we still were able to ride all the rides (and not die of heat exhaustion like normal) and had a BLAST.

Toledo Zoo

Mom and I hit up the Toledo Zoo. There were lots of children on field trips, but we still enjoyed ourselves. And there is a BABY POLAR BEAR!!! Ryan LOVES polar bears, so I had to take tons of pictures (and even a few videos) for him.

Go Tigers!

While back in Michigan the family went to a Tigers game. It was quite HOT (even though the thermometer only said 62 degrees). My loving brother trekked all over the stadium to find me veggie dogs. AND THE TIGERS WIN!!

Donald Duck too

Donald Being Donald

It seems that Donald Duck just can’t help himself sometimes. When I first saw this statue of Donald in Disneyland park from this angle, I couldn’t help but see the humor in his pose. What do you think he’s saying?

Hidden Mickeys

Hidden Mickeys

The playful Imagineers who design the Disney World's rides often try to sneak in images of the Mouse and his pals everywhere. There's no official guide to these, but plenty of on-line fanzines obsess over the latest appearance of Mickey or Minnie. Since a silhouette of Mickey Mouse is just three circles, the Imagineers can hide them in lots of places: the window of the Main Street Garage has a shadow of Mickey's head; as you wait in line at Space Mountain, every third window has a constellation of stars in the shape of Mickey; there are a reported 67 hidden Mickeys at Splash Mountain alone, including the opening for the big chute, which is a Mickey head in profile. Visitors report Mickeys even where they aren't: There was a vigorous online debate about a Mickey or Minnie on the skylight at one of the monorail stations -- turns out it was the remains of a mylar balloon printed with Mickey's face that had stuck to the skylight.

Job Hunt

1. My first job was working in an Orange Juice factory, but I got canned. Couldn't concentrate.
2. Then I worked in the woods as a Lumberjack, but just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the axe.
3. After that, I tried being a Tailor, but wasn't suited for it -- mainly because it was a sew-sew job.
4. Next, I tried working in a Muffler Factory, but that was too exhausting.
5. Then, tried being a Chef - figured it would add a little spice to my life, but just didn't have the thyme.
6. Next, I attempted being a Deli Worker, but any way I sliced it... couldn't cut the mustard.
7. My best job was a Musician, but eventually found I wasn't noteworthy.
8. I studied a long time to become a Doctor, but didn't have any patience.
9. Next, was a job in a Shoe Factory. Tried hard but just didn't fit in.
10. I became a Professional Fisherman,but discovered I couldn't live on my net income.
11. Managed to get a good job working for a Pool Maintenance Company, but the work was just too draining.
12. So then I got a job in a Workout Center, but they said I wasn't fit for the job.
13. After many years of trying to find steady work, I finally got a job as a Historian - until I realized there was no future in it.
14. My last job was working in Starbucks, but had to quit because it was the same old grind.
15. SO, I TRIED Retirement AND FOUND I'M PERFECT FOR THE JOB!
