#OptOutside

I'm not sure if you are aware or not, but REI started a campaign last year called #OptOutside. They decided that instead of joining in on the rat race and having a HUGE Black Friday sale, they were actually going to close all of their locations and urge folks to #OptOutside. Sure, it may have been a big risk (I'm not sure if you work in retail, but that ONE DAY can be HUGE for annual sales), but REI decided that it was worth it!

Last year, the hubby had to work over in Hawaii the week before Thanksgiving. We decided that I would head over to the islands after his responsibilities were wrapped up and spend our holiday over there. Let's just say, even with the off and on rain that we had, it is easy to #OptOutside when you are in paradise.

Yup, that's Diamond Head in the background... Rough life, right?!

This year (in case you haven't been keeping close tabs), we are actually in Yosemite for the Thanksgiving holiday. We drove out on Tuesday and will be there until Saturday. (Originally we were planning on going to Zion, but the camp sites were all taken by the time we got around to planning the trip... next year though!) [PS I'm sure I'll have plenty to share once we get back, but for the time being we're trying to unwind and go off-the-grid while enjoying framily and nature.]

The pup isn't coming this time... seeing as snow and sub-freezing temps are
expected, but he will have a great time with his puppy friends while we're gone!

And REI isn't the only one getting in on this trend. More than 352 organizations have chosen to #OptOutside this year (more than double last year's total). Subaru, the National Parks Foundation, Google and hundreds of other partners are helping REI create a new tradition—connecting with friends and family in the outdoors. Check them all out HERE.

Speaking of Subaru, if you share a photo of your dog enjoying the outdoors, and use #OptOutside and #MakeADogsDay, Subaru will make a $1 donation to the ASPCA in your honor (up to $50,000). Not only that — to help those dogs who truly need to #OptOutside the most— Subaru will be providing a fleet of cars and drivers in New York to take shelter dogs out into nature for a great day, and also giving NYC dogs and their owners a chance to spend the day away from the concrete and in the great outdoors.

From November 16, 2016 to November 27, 2016 publicly post a photo of yourself with your dog outdoors on Facebook, Instagram, or
Twitter, include hashtags #OptOutside & #MakeADogsDay, and Subaru of America, Inc. will donate $1 to the ASPCA, up to $50,000 total.

And don't worry, whatever time it is when you are reading this, it's not too late! There is still time in the day to #OptOutside... Take a stroll, go to the park, walk the doggy, bust out the skateboard, bike around the neighborhood, go star gazing, have a bonfire, enjoy a picnic, hike a nearby trail, whatever it is - JUST GET OUTSIDE!

How did you spend your Black Friday?
