#Active4Asher Trail Run

I know I posted about this event last week (more as a "HEADS UP, THIS IS WHAT'S GOING ON"), but TODAY WAS THE DAY!!

Normally Saturdays are my rest days. I try to get in my long runs on Fridays so I have the majority of the weekend to spend with the hubby, puppy, friends, etc. OBVIOUSLY this would HAVE to change for today, because I DEFINITELY needed to get out and get #Active4Asher.

I had to work from 8am-12pm, but Ryan and I decided we would go running after I got off. He has been running some trails by his office lately and really been loving it. I told him I would give it a go. (I think I could really love trail running, the only issues are my lack of balance {I really don't want to break an ankle} and my fear of snakes {I really don't want to be bitten by one}.)

Aren't the ribbons they mailed out so cute?! LOVED the postcard!

So around 12:30pm we made our way down to Carlsbad to the trails at Lake Calavera.

Okay, let's do this!

We went a "different way" than Ryan normally goes (read "he may have taken a couple wrong turns"), so there were some rather steep portions that we had to walk (both on the uphill and the crazy rocky terrain downhill). At one point Ryan said, "Come on babe, we are being #Active4Asher" to which I replied, "But I don't want to #BreakMyLeg4Asher".

Cacti EVERY WHERE!

Shut the front door! Really?! A VOLCANO?!

My studly trail runner ;)

The "lake" (taken while Ryan had to take a potty break)

Of course Ryan wanted us to climb the mountain...

Rocky trails, but thankfully no one tripped

We are going camping in a couple weeks, so while we were getting a few last minute items Ryan mentioned we should get a selfie stick. I know, I know, you all hate them (I do too), but we thought it would be helpful rather than having to set up the tripod all the time. We got one off Amazon and figured we would bring it on today's run so we could "test it out".

ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN!

We're so strong!

We even tried to take a couple while running...

Not too shabby!

And one last quick picture stop near the water

I will be the first to admit it, it is pretty fun :) And we were able to get a couple winning shots! Ryan even took a video of me running for a bit (I thought he was filming himself running, come to find out I was wrong!). [PS This was one of the only flat portions of our run, so we felt safe to try it out. The rest of the run I was staring down at my feet the entire time.]

All-in-all we ran a 4 miles to get #Active4Asher (I accidentally forgot to turn my watch on when we were running with the selfie stick, so it might have been more like 4.25, but oh well). I didn't fall or see any snakes, so I will consider it a WIN in my book!

Considering the bit of walking we did on the steep and stony
portions, I would say we ROCKED it (ha, get it?!)

#Active4Asher

WE DID IT!!

Ryan went #TwoPairDontCare, but I guess I didn't get the memo.

I love when the running community pulls together for something much bigger than any one of us. Running can be such a selfish sport, but the people, the PEOPLE are what make me love it so much!!

Did you get #Active4Asher today?

Awesome trail run! I'm going to have to try running there one day. I recently acquired a selfie stick... and I have to admit, I like it. But I don't plan to take any running selfies with it anytime soon. Haha!

Carlee! You are truly one-of-a-kind. You have done so much for our little guy and for that we are forever grateful. We don't believe #Active4Asher would've been as big as it is if it weren't for individuals like you. You and Ryan are a couple we look up to with how you both manage to keep things looking easy. Like you said, it's the PEOPLE that make this community so rewarding to be a part of. BTW, we are so jealous of your "backyard." The SD area is beautiful and we'd love to run there all the time.
