Morning After Mess Cleanup Day Set for July 5th
The Fourth of July is San Diego's busiest beach day of the year with hundreds of thousands flocking to the shoreline to enjoy a day of sand, sun, and fun. Unfortunately, anyone who's seen the aftermath also knows that in the past the holiday produces the most trash and litter of any other beach day. Last year, volunteers collected over 9,000 pounds of trash, including 20,000 cigarette butts, at six beaches throughout the county. Will this year be different with the new alcoholic beverages ban on City of San Diego beaches?
The Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter will find out this Saturday. In cooperation with Sun Diego Boardshops, Surfrider invites the public to join them in this year's "Morning After Mess Cleanup Day" on Saturday, July 5 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.. The Morning After Mess Cleanup Day will organize much needed volunteers to assist workers picking up the trash left at six San DiegoCounty beaches from Oceanside to OceanBeach over the Fourth of July holiday.
