So yesterday's post introduced the lovely ladies I will be tackling the SoCal Ragnar Relay Race with (if you missed it, LAME SAUCE, but don't worry, you can still check it out here).
Today's post is all about the REASON we are running!
Sure, sure, the medals are nice, but this race is about so much more than the memories, miles, and donuts (you better believe my "sweet fast" for Lent will be over by then - thank goodness - and those Sparkle Athletic ladies love them some donuts).
Not only is the team going to conquer the SoCal Ragnar Relay, we are hoping to use this opportunity to raise both awareness and money for Rett Syndrome and Girl Power 2 Cure, a cause that is near and dear to our hearts.
Girl Power 2 Cure, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome, a devastating neurological disorder that almost exclusively affects girls.
Each of our 181 miles during the race will be dedicated to a specific girl afflicted with this neurological disorder because #Ragnar4Rett is so much more than just a group of friends getting together to run. It is about something bigger than just me, or our team, or a race. This can be about LIFE CHANGE!
This disorder is potentially reversible! Research has proven that once protein levels are back to normal levels, symptoms subside. Funding more research in this area could possibly give girls their lives back! Most of the girls effected by Rett Syndrome cannot speak, walk, or even use their hands - they must rely on someone else for functions that you and I take for granted.
Awareness isn't just about learning about this devastating syndrome, it is about joining a WINNABLE fight! But we need you! With your help, we can cure Rett Syndrome! Please consider donating if this cause has your name on it. No donation is too small; every penny counts!
Thank you in advance for considering giving to this incredible cause!
As I have mentioned before, I am so excited to tackle this challenge, and now, hopefully you understand a bit more about why it isn't "just another race" for our team.
Have you ever run for a cause before?
