Morning Run

A couple weeks ago, in one of my Workout Recap posts, I mentioned I was just getting back into the swing of working out WHILE still having to work (oh the "real world", how I wish someone would just pay me to run, blog and walk my pup, HA). Currently I am working from 8am until 2pm (although sometimes I start earlier, and therefore end earlier), Monday through Thursday. I have found that the majority of my runs or workouts happen after work, around 1:30-2:30pm (yup, you guessed it, during the warmest part of the day). In that post, I admitted I was thinking about switching things up a bit and trying to run in the morning.

Today was the day! Hubby was going to run at work yesterday, but he got caught up in a project so was off later than he would have liked and decided to scrap the run. When he got home he mentioned he wasn't able to get his run in, but since the waves were supposed to be bad (he tries to surf most mornings) Wednesday that he might run before work. I asked him if he was planning on running at work (they have a treadmill and a shower) and before he could answer I strongly urged him gently suggested WE RUN TOGETHER.

Since I start work by 8am, have to walk the dog and feed him before then, and because I would need to shower, I said we would have to be out the door around 6:30am which did NOT make Ryan happy, especially when I poked him around 6:25 this morning to get his running gear on. He turned to me and said, "Maybe I'll just snooze a little longer", to which I said, "Oh no you didn't" and gave him the evil eye a nice smile.

He got out of bed and we were actually running right at 6:30. We have a loop by our house that is 3 miles, so we decided we'd do that this morning. It is rather hilly, but it helps negative splits seeing as you are going uphill on the way out and downhill on the way back. We run up to a nearby park, on the path around the edge of the park twice, through a nearby neighborhood, back down to our complex, and then around the outside of our complex to finish our our 3 miles. Towards the end of the run, Ryan decided to grab Walt for the portion around our complex.

Ryan trying to corral Walt into running "nicely"
so we could finish out our 3 miles without any trips or falls.

After we finished up, we decided to walk Walt together around the complex a little more before each getting ready for work. At that point it was about 7:15am so headed upstairs. I got out Walt's food and sat with him while he ate his breakfast and Ry jumped in the shower. Seeing as I work from home, I didn't feel like rushing around and getting ready, so I just stayed in my running gear while I worked (thankfully it was pretty cool out this morning and we were running an easy pace so I wasn't too sweaty/ stinky but even still, Walt would be the only one who would mind, and since he is a stinky dog I knew he wouldn't care - he probably actually prefers it, hehe).

I can't say that I will consistently do morning runs during the week (although the temperatures are better, I do really enjoy running at the beach, which works better for me in the afternoon when I have time to drive down and back with no time restraints), I am glad it is an option and STOKED whenever the hubs makes it out to run with me! (I will continue to do my longer runs on Friday as early as I can though to beat the heat - but since I'm off those days I don't have to worry about rushing home to get ready for anything.)

Couples that run together stay together...

Do you prefer to run/ workout in the morning, afternoon, or evening?

I love running in the late afternoon, early evening, but mornings are sometimes the only chance I have to get a run in. It's not terrible to run in the morning, at least in the summer, but it's not always a favorite. This morning my run was great, but sometimes I have a hard time waking up for a mile or two ;)

How timely. I just started to run in the morning this week too!

I prefer running in the morning. It is easier for me to wake up before everyone else to run. By the time evening rolls around I am exhausted from chasing my kids all day.

I would rather run and workout in the morning, but since I have work at 5:30 in the morning, I'm forced to do both later in the day. Hey, it gets the job done and if I can do it, anyone can!
