Tom Brady says his best moment was being named captain at Michigan (Video)

As Michigan embarks on what could be an unexpectedly special season, they got a little inspiration from one of their most famous alumni.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who played at Michigan from 1996-99 before being drafted in the sixth round by the Patriots in 2000, stopped by Schembechler Hall to chat with the team Thursday. Brady was in town because the Patriots are playing Detroit in the evening.

Brady, who has been named an NFL MVP, a Super Bowl MVP and won three Super Bowls, told the group of impressionable Michigan players that despite all of his accolades in the NFL, his greatest honor came while he was wearing the maize and blue.

“I didn’t have an easy experience. I didn’t come in as a top-rated recruit. I didn’t come with the opportunity to play right away. I had to earn it," Brady said. "You know what the greatest honor I’ve ever received as a player is? In my fourth and fifth year, I was named team captain. That, to this day, is the single greatest achievement I’ve ever had as a football player, because the men in this room chose me to lead their team. These were my best friends. These were the guys that knew that I liked to work, that knew that I loved football, that knew that I loved to play, that knew I wanted to be the quarterback for Michigan."

You could hear the passion in Brady's voice as he delivered the speech and Michigan fans hope that same passion is somehow transmitted to the team as it embarks on a pivotal season.

Brady also took some time to visit with current Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner. Gardner commented on Twitter about a photo of the two rocking Michigan jerseys in the Michigan locker room. Michigan fans are probably hoping some of Brady’s magic rubs on their starter.

We here at Doc Saturday think Gardner could be one of the great surprises of the 2013 season. With a year of starting under his belt and no threat of Denard Robinson, Gardner could make the Wolverines a serious contender in the Big Ten. However, November’s going to be a really tough month.
