Family struggles after hit-and-run death of man, 21

On a wind-swept section of Jackman Rd., Dave Tucker stood along the roadside and gazed at the site where his youngest child and only son took his last breath.

In the weeks since 21-year-old Brian Tucker was killed by a hit-and-run driver, his father has avoided the road he used to take to work. On Thursday afternoon he met with a Monroe County sheriff's deputy to see the place where his son was struck and dragged for almost a half mile.

'It's my way of getting past it; it's the only way I can live with it,' Mr. Tucker said after visiting the scene. 'It's a page you have to turn whether you want to turn it or not. But I just couldn't come down here. It's tough. It's tough. He was my right-hand man. He used to emulate me.'

On Jan. 17, Brian was walking home from a friend's house when he was hit by a car north of Temperance Rd. and dragged 2,335 feet. The driver never stopped. Since then, little information about who was responsible has been gathered.

Deputy Tim George and Mr. Tucker both say they are certain the person behind the wheel that night knew he or she hit a person.
