Walt Wednesday

Some people do a "Wordless Wednesday" post, where they simply share a photo or image, but I thought I'd make a little series out of my Wednesdays. And since I love alliteration so much, why not go with Walt Wednesdays (obviously everyone can use a little break from the seriousness, scariness and sassiness of life - and what better way to help put a smile on your face than with a cute wiener dog picture, am I right?!)... So, without further ado...

WALT WEDNESDAY!

Workout Recap - Week 20

Sunday, May 13th – 6.2 mile run, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Monday, May 14th – 3 mile run with the hubby, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Tuesday, May 15th – 60 minutes on the stationary bike, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Wednesday, May 16th – 8 mile run

Thursday, May 17th – 10 mile run, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Friday, May 18th – 7 mile run with the hubby and a friend, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Saturday, May 19th – 4 mile trail run with the hubby, Stretched & Foam Rolled

My mileage may be lower than it has been, but I'm doing my best to enjoy every step. I don't have anything on the calendar currently (maybe that isn't 100% true... I'll be running both the Rock 'N' Roll San Diego 5K and Half Marathon but I'm running them with friends and we won't be pushing the pace in any way so I don't necessarily have to train to be able to get to those starting {or finish} lines) so I'm loving the lackadaisicalness of not having a strict schedule to follow. I know that only lasts so long though, so I'm sure some type of goal will come along sooner or later for me to train to tackle ;)

Friday Favorites

It's FRIDAY! WHOOOO HOOOO! Let's just say I am looking forward to maxing and relaxing this weekend! We have been on the go for what seems like 4 months straight so it will be nice to be home (and not entertaining) this weekend. Of course we have an ever growing to-do list that we need to tackle, but not having to travel anywhere will be nice! Wanna know what else is nice?! All of the things on this week's Friday Favorites - DUH!

I Heart Dogs (and Cats) Tee from Hello Apparel

Every year Hello Apparel teams up with animal rescues and donates a part of their limited edition tees to the different organizations. This year $5.00 of every Dog Tee sold will be donated to @ghettorescue based in Los Angeles, CA and $5.00 of every Cat Tee sold will be donated to @hopespringscatsanctuary located in Nashville, TN. As I hope you all know, I am DEFINITELY a dog person ;) so am pretty sure I NEED the dog tee! (I have two of the previous year's tees as well.) Remember, these are limited edition so make sure to place your order soon or else you may miss out!

#RaceDavid

There is a BADASS 6 year old in San Diego who has a goal to RACE THE WORLD! The Challenged Athletes Foundation is blessing David with racing ("cheetah") legs. When David was asked what he wants to do with his new racing prosthetics, he answered: “Race every single person in this world.” He raced IRONKIDS in Oceanside to help get that journey started and now he along with his whole family are going to race the Rock ‘N’ Roll San Diego 5K (his first ever 5K). You better believe I will be there to help this little man on the way to reach his AMAZING goal!

Fathom Events

As you are hopefully well aware (thanks to my movie recap posts at the end of the month), the hubby and I have been enjoying and utilizing our MoviePasses. Not only have we enjoyed going to see new films (especially ones we may not have otherwise spent the full ticket price on), but we've really liked some of the special events that Fathom has put on. We have seen old movies that have been rereleased in the theater (like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth) and new movies (like American Dream: Detroit and The Snowman Trek). Now, to be honest, I don't know that I would pay the $12.50 per movie to see them normally, but since they are included in our MoviePass membership I have totally been down to see them. Some of the upcoming films we have on our list are Andy Irons: Kissed By God, Big and The Big Lebowski.

Bears Ears Educational Center Publicity

I've mentioned the Bears Ears Education Center Kickstarter that the hubby and I backed a few times on here, but we just got an update from the Friends of Cedar Mesa and I thought it was pretty awesome so wanted to pass it along! The Bears Ears Education Center was recently highlighted in a PBS Newshour story! The Center is still being renovated but I'm STOKED at the recent progress and one day we hope to visit it in person (with our donor plaque on the wall)!

2019 Sprouts Mesa-PHX Mesa-Marathon Ambassadors

I have been lucky enough to have been part of the ambassador program with the Mesa-PHX Marathon for the last couple years and hope to once again be on the crew for the upcoming race. And if you are interested in joining the group, you can submit your application prior to June 1st to be considered! Apply HERE (it's quick and painless)! Even if you don't want to be an ambassador, you should definitely put the race on your calendar for 2019! I mean, #ItsGoingDownAtPHX!

Brooks x Special Olympics USA Games 2018

Did you know Brooks is a partner of this year's Special Olympics which will be take place in Seattle in just a few weeks?!

Source

Not only that, did you know I will be heading to Seattle to be a part of the festivities?! I'm BEYOND excited to not only visit Brooks and hang out with some amazing ambassadors, but to be a part of the USA Games! Brooks' commitment to the community and to the transformative power of running is a PERFECT match for the mission of the 2018 USA Games.

Source

Over 4,000 athletes and coaches from 14 different sports will participate in the games. Also attending are over 70,000 spectators, partners and volunteers. As I'm sure you can expect, Brooks plans to bring their Run Happy spirit to the event.

Source

As part of the partnership, Brooks released a limited-edition 2018 USA Games performance running shoe as well as a line of co-branded performance apparel. A portion of the sales of these products ($10 from each footwear sale and $5 from each apparel and accessory sale) will be donated to the 2018 USA Games. 300 Brooks employees, partners and running enthusiasts will serve as volunteers during the games (me being one of them!). Also, the company will provide a free pair of Brooks running shoes to athletes participating in the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Fit Feet program.

The Brooks crew HOOKED IT UP and sent an AWESOME care package to those of us heading to Seattle!

Some of the details on the USA Games Ghost 10 shoes

If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up to do so HERE. There are opportunities to help out with everything from being a cheerer at the opening ceremony to a finish line assistant. Specific time slots fill up quickly so sign up soon.

{FYI: Because I want to be totally transparent - Brooks will be covering the costs of my travel and accommodations for this event. Even still, you can expect 100% honesty about my experience! You better believe I've always gotta #KeepItReal!}

Small Changes with Big Impact

I hope by now you know I have a passion for trying to leave this place a little better than I found it. Normally I don't urge others to join in, but hope my actions inspire others to follow suit (or at least cause them to think about their own actions/ habits/ lifestyle). I never want to come off as preachy or superior - I realize my journey is not necessarily your journey.

Source

Well, today I hope you give me a little leeway because I'm going to suggest a small change that could lead a big impact.

Will you join me in giving up plastic straws?!

Plastic straws have become one of those mindless conveniences that we don't even notice any more. Though at first this small straw may not seem like a lot, when its usage is added up, the impact on our environment and on the animals that encounter them is no longer sustainable or acceptable. And, with the USA using 500 million straws every single day (enough straws to circle around the Earth two and a half times on a DAILY basis!), that's a lot of trash and potential litter.

Did you know by refusing the use of plastic straws, you alone can offset the astonishing number by an average of 30,000 plastic straws in your lifetime?! Now that's a small and easy change we can make with long lasting effects!

Source

I know some of you may be particular about using a straw (for example, I know my mom gets the heebie-jeebies if she has to put her lips on a plastic cup at restaurants), so if you still need a straw, please consider a reusable one. There are tons of options on the market (from bamboo and stainless steel to glass and silicone). Some even come with a travel case so you can carry them in your purse, car, or etc. In fact, if you sign the #OneLessStraw Petition they will send you a coupon code for a reusable glass straw thanks to One More Generation and Simply Straws {offer excludes shipping}.

Source

I know it's easy to get discouraged and think our efforts don't actually matter, but I promise that if we all do our part we can make a difference! I love Margaret Mead's that says "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." We impact the world - here's to hoping it's in a positive way!

Workout Recap - Week 19

Sunday, May 6th – OC Half Marathon

Monday, May 7th – 4 mile run with the hubby, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Tuesday, May 8th – 60 minutes on the stationary bike, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Wednesday, May 9th – 8 mile run, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Thursday, May 10th – 13.1 mile run, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Friday, May 11th – 5.3 mile run

Saturday, May 12th – Rest Day, Stretched & Foam Rolled

Hey, I'm sort of getting back to normal (well, normal in my running routing, but my mother-in-law has been in town since Wednesday so it's been a challenge to sneak in runs while not taking too much time away from family hang-outs). With very few races on the calendar, I don't have a specific training plan, but I'll take those 43.5 miles for the week!

How were your workouts this past week?
