6:27am: Woke up (No alarm needed - when the sky is awake, I AM AWAKE... which reminds me, we REALLY NEED some black out blinds)
Sleep tracking from my Garmin Vívofit2 |
6:30am - 7:00am: Checked social media (Obviously it is UBER important to see what everyone has been doing since I went to sleep the night before... But honestly it give me a bit of time to fully "wake up".)
7:00am - 7:40am: Worked on yesterday's blog post
7:40am - 7:45am: Packed hubby's lunch, then got out breakfast for both the pup and the hubby
7:45am - 8:00am: Woke up the hubby and chatted a bit about the day ahead
8:00am - 12:00pm: Worked (and I got to work with my girl Kara, which is ALWAYS a treat, even if her Internet was rude on her)
12:00pm - 12:25pm: Walked the pup
Sometimes walks are about hiding from the sun and trying to blend in with your surroundings... |
12:25pm - 2:15pm: Ran on the treadmill (I've always heard that you should run your long runs SLOW, but then I read an article in Runner's World at the pool on Saturday that said maybe that isn't the case. The thought is that if you have a goal time in mind for an upcoming race, maybe you should actually run some of the miles in your long run at that goal pace {to give you confidence that you CAN run at that pace and also to get your body familiar with running at that speed}. Obviously not all of your run longs should be at race pace, but some... And since I am not actually on a training plan I decided I would give it a go and see if I could hold my 8:00/mile pace for 10 miles. It was ROUGH, but I FREAKIN' DID IT! {PS Didn't know if I wanted to listen to music or watch a movie during the run, so I ended up watching the first half of Rent and singing along the whole time - best of both worlds!})
2:15pm - 3:15pm: Showered and got ready
3:15pm - 4:15pm: Went and got gas (MAN the prices have SKY-ROCKETED $.50 per gallon in the past 4 days - OUCH!) and groceries
4:15pm - 4:30pm: Put away the groceries I brought in (and while I was at it, I think I ate about half of the cherries that I purchased)
4:30pm - 5:00pm: Walked the pup
Sometimes walks are all about picking up unripened avocados that fall from the trees and we think they are delicious toys to play with... |
5:00pm - 6:00pm: #HealthyWayMag Twitter Chat
6:00pm - 6:30pm: Made dinner
6:30pm - 7:00pm: Ate dinner with the hubster and talked about the day
7:00pm - 8:00pm: Ryan and I took Walt up the the local school to let him run around for a while
8:00pm - 9:00pm: Caught up on True Detective (LOVED the first season, but this one is "eh" so far)
9:00pm - 9:15pm: Foam rolled and stretched
9:15pm - 9:45pm: Read blogs and checked social media while laying in bed
9:45pm: Put the phone on "Do Not Disturb" mode and switched my Garmin Vívofit2 to "sleep"
**Throughout the day I also did 4 loads of laundry, ran the dishwasher, hard boiled eggs for a couple meals, and started getting stuff together for #BlogFest later in the week. Since Ryan is the main bread winner in our home (my job is more just "play money" - meaning race entries and running shoes ;)), the least I can do is keep the house somewhat respectable.**
So there you have it. Again, I'm not even sure you really care what I do throughout the day, but at least you get a peak into an average day in my life. We all get the same 24 hours - the only difference it what we do with the time we've been given!
Do you ever run portions of your long runs at race pace?

I'm a huge fan of running race pace, or pretty close, on my long runs. I read "Run Less, Run Faster" and it really resonated with my mindset and lifestyle. Only 3 runs per week, but make them really count? Yes, please!
Always interesting to see what others do in their day! Great job on the run - that run will be a great confidence booster and something you can pull from on race day to keep you motivated when you're feeling tired!
I can definitely tell that I'm losing a good deal of my speed with the coaching that I'm doing--and I don't feel like I have much more on tap! Frustrating, but I wasn't planning on going balls to the wall with Chicago. But in the past, I definitely liked to do my long runs about 50% at race pace and 50% about 30-45 seconds behind.
I like to see the others day, how it looks like, what are your routine things, like eating or walking Walt...Here for example we tend to have dinner or lunch later, and the more you go South, the more you eat late. In Rome they eat dinner around 10 pm! The same as Spanish! Here up in the mountains we eat dinner at 7 pm or 8pm...
