QALO Giveaway

I've gotta tell you a little story. So, before Ryan and I got engaged, we went to a jewelry store in the mall to get my finger sized. The associate helping us could tell that we weren't actually going to buy anything there so she was less than thrilled to be assisting us. She chucked a couple sizers on my finger and quickly said "5".

Well, when Ryan had my ring made (I had a little help in designing it; two sapphires, since both of us are Virgos, and a diamond in the center, signifying the two of us becoming one), he went off what she said - I mean, why wouldn't he?

Come to find out, my finger is a 3.5. Yup, I've got tiny fingers. Not only is that finger NOT a 5, but because it is a prong setting, when you resize the ring, the stones could get loose and fall out because the prongs may be stretched opened during the process. We looked into getting the stones reset, but the cost was so crazy that we could buy a new ring for that... So, that's what we did.

My original engagement ring and wedding band are currently in our lockbox. Don't get me wrong, I love the ring, but it doesn't fit my finger... or necessarily my lifestyle.

The new ring I got (about 5 or so Christmases ago) is just a band (I think it's considered an eternity band, but I am so not hip when it comes to jewelry or girly things I'm not 100% sure). Seeing as I am always on the go and have an active lifestyle, I thought it fit me better (and it came in a size 3.5 - WINNER WINNER FAKE CHICKEN DINNER).

Source

A couple of the diamonds have since fallen out (GRRRRRR), reminding me once again why I can't (or shouldn't) have nice things. So when I started seeing friends with silicone wedding bands I was intrigued. Not only did they look comfy and colorful, they seemed perfect for an active lifestyle (whether that's lifting weights, biking, running, surfing, rock climbing, etc).

When researching different brands, QALO stood out to me amongst all of the others.

Source

Right off the bat, I love the different color options they offer (because, first and foremost, it's gotta be cute, right?!). Next, they are a "local" company - just up the street in Orange, CA. But I also love what the company stands for. Like literally QALO stands for Quality Athletics Love Outdoors.

Source

I also love that they have an option for customization. They consider it a Call Sign. A Call Sign is a unique identifier used to represent a transmission or group. It is intended to be a “secret” communication tool understood only by the members of a specific collection or group. The QALO Call Sign allows couples to use our new customization feature to create their own “Call Signs” with their significant other.

QALO offers four collections of rings; Quality Athletics Love Outdoors (déjà vu anyone?!). My favorite being OUTDOORS. If you follow me on social media, you know that the hubby and I love going on adventures of all types. We love enjoying the great outdoors together! For goodness sakes, we bought a truck so we could build the back out and have an Adventuremobile for all of our travels!

Just some of our recent adventures

And because the folks at QALO are just so FREAKIN' AWESOME, they are offering up the full collection of Outdoors Rings for you AND YOUR SPOUSE, as well as an Outdoors tee for the two of you! I mean, and it is just in time for Valentine's Day, so the timing could not be any more perfect, right?!

Just in case you aren't the lucky winner, you can use THIS LINK to save $5 on your next order... So I guess that means EVERYONE is a winner, right?!

A set for each of you (with travel case so you can store your extras, along with your "real" ring)

And a tee for both of you from the Outdoors collection

Cardiff Kook 10K Race Recap

I totally forgot about the Cardiff Kook Run until Friday! With the hubby being out of town (he's on a guys camping trip in Joshua Tree) and the morning off work, I figured I could try and squeeze it in on Super Bowl Sunday (the race is always on the morning of Super Bowl Sunday). There's a costume contest aspect of the race, and although I never "technically" enter, I always love running in some sort of funny attire. Well, with the last minute add of the race, it meant very last minute costuming, but thankfully I had the materials in the closet to throw together a decent Donald Duck costume.

I made the bow and "buttons" out of extra felt and hot glue, the "arms" were
cheap sleeves from Amazon, my duck legs were PRO Compression marathon socks,
my white tail feathers were a Sparkle Athletic skirt, blue Brooks to match the
ensemble, along with a yellow Handful sports bra, royal blue Sparkly Soul headband,
yellow RoadID bracelet, my Garmin Forerunner 220, Garmin vívofit2, a yellow
Momentum Jewelry wrap ("positive energy") and can't forget a DUCK BILL!

The Cardiff Kook Run offers a 5K, the "Kook" Distance (which is a 4-miler, with the turn around spot at the Cardiff Kook statue - although I heard from a friend who ran it there wasn't any differentiation from the 5K and no signs for the turnaround point [hoping that they change this in the future because I would totally run a 4-miler, I mean it's an automatic PR since I've never raced that distance before ;) ] ), and a 10K. Although I only had 3 miles on the calendar, I decided to opt for the 10K (because, you know me, I have a real hard time turning down extra mileage).

Source

I drove down to Encinitas around 6:15am so that I could pick up my bib before the race, which started at 7:35am (they do offer bib pick-up throughout the weekend, but with the late add and the super busy Saturday I had, race morning worked out PERFECTLY). I didn't have any issue with street parking (and even ROCKED my parallel parking job!). Everything was very well organized and efficient. I do appreciate the fact that you pick up your participant race tee AFTER the race, that way you don't have to worry about taking it back to the car before the race (since no gear check is offered).

Selfie Starting (and also Finish) Line Shot

After I grabbed my bib and a tiny cup of water [more on that later], it was time to take a quick pre-race picture. (Since I didn't have my personal photographer with me, I had to ask a fellow runner to snap the pic, but I think she did a great job!)

No matter what the finish clock reads, I am a lucky duck to be able to
toe the starting line of yet another amazing race!

There seemed to be plenty of port-o-potties near the start (which was also the finish) of the race. I walked right up without having to wait. The hand washing stations had FREEZING COLD WATER in them (or maybe it was just the chill in the air that made it feel that way), but I would much rather cold water than no water. #KeepItClean

Before we knew it, it was time to line up and get our race on. Like many smaller races, self-seeding was the way to go. Although there were volunteers with "XX minute per mile" pace signs, it seemed as though not many people were abiding by them. I actually heard some folks near me say that because they were part of a running club, they were told to go up as close behind the elites as possible so they could all start together as a perk of being part of the club (even though they mentioned they were hoping to run 10-11 minute mile pace)... Hmmm...

Anywho, the National Anthem played and we were off!

I didn't really have a game plan for the race. The LA Marathon is next weekend, so I kept that in mind and didn't want to do anything crazy. I figured I would try and keep around an 8:00/mile pace and see how I felt, especially with the temps expected to rise quickly during the race.

The course is BEAUTIFUL! But, then again, I already knew that! It's one of the reasons why I run the 101 for my long runs - beautiful views, stunning scenery and (sometimes) beach breezes. Although, somehow, I always block it out that the steady downhill for the first 3 miles turns into a gradual UPHILL for the last 3 miles.

Source
Can't beat the views with a 10K along the coast!

The heat started making an appearance by mile 2, which is NOT a good sign for next weekend's marathon, but I guess that just means we need to run faster to beat the heat, right?!

Often times, folks will ask me what I think about while I am running. I thought it would be kind of fun to recap a few of the ramblings in my noggin' during today's race.

Thoughts per mile:

Mile 1:

  • Hope my hands warm up or I may drop my phone.
  • I wish people paid more attention to the pace signs... Self seeding can make for dangerous course conditions and lots of bobbing and weaving.
  • Started too fast, thanks shins for reminding me.

Mile 2:

  • Here comes the sun, do do do do, Here comes the sun and I said, "I'm alright!"
  • I know I run by the ocean often, but man these views never get old! I hope I never take them for granted.
  • Oh, look, the elites are already heading back towards us - holy speed!

Mile 3:

  • Well that sure warmed up quickly. Maybe these Donald Duck "arms" weren't the best choice, even if it did go with my costume.
  • Hey Eric!
  • There are less people dressed up than in years past. I remember the last time I ran this race and there was a group Sprinter costume - yay for public transit!

Mile 4:

  • I know I run this area often, but man do I forget how the gradual downhill on the way out turns into gradual UPHILL on the way back. Guess that just means we've gotta work for that finish line.
  • Go Chelsea Go!
  • Some people hate out-and-back courses but I love cheering on fellow racers! YOU GO RUNNER!

Mile 5:

  • Ah, here is where we join with the 5K'ers. And this is where the fun people are! Look at those costumes! A couple is running with a couch! They totally win today!
  • I appreciate that they keep the 5K and 10K separate for the first part of the 5Ks turn around before everyone merges together. Helps to make sure folks are aware of their surroundings.
  • Go Gumby!
  • Will this hill EVER end?!
  • Maybe I should have grabbed a Dixie cup of water at that last stop...
  • Can you believe people eat an average of 2,500 calories at Super Bowl parties?! WHAT?! But, in all honesty, what should I make for lunch?

Mile 6:

  • It's quite toasty out here. Glad that this is only a 10K and I'm not running Surf City Half or Full like some of my friends.
  • High fives for all the spectators!
  • I can see the finish line, time to kick and see if I can pass those girls.

Finish:

  • Beat those 6 women - YES! Now let's hope some of them were in my age group.
  • I sure hope LA is NOT this hot next weekend or I will REALLY need to adjust my game plan.
  • Shut the front door, I think I just PR'ed! I did... By 7.5 seconds... But a PR is a PR, right?!
  • Time to grab my participant tee and head home to cuddle with the pup.

After I crossed the finish line, I grabbed my medal and saw Eric (you know, the owner and brain behind PRO Compression) so had to snap a picture. He joked that he needed proof he actually still runs these days (but he smoked me in the 10K, so not only does he still run, he runs FAST!). Honored he lets me rep his brand as an ambassador!

The man, the myth, the legend - Mr. Eric Smith ladies and gentlemen!

Then it was time for some water. I didn't get any on the course (normally don't take hydration with me on runs under 5 or so miles, depending on the heat of course) and was parched due to the quickly rising temps. Although the tiny cups worked well during the race (most people don't take more than a sip or two anyway), at the finish line I would have much preferred larger cups. They didn't have any goodies (like bars or bananas), so I would have liked to have seen more than 2 or 3 ounces of water per person. Thankfully I had a sports drink waiting for me in the car.

What can I say?! I know how to have a strong Wrist Party! My Arm Candy was ON POINT!

After downing a couple shots of water, it was over to the shirt pick-up to grab my participant tee. It's pretty boring this year - a black cotton tee with white writing, but since I will use it to for my next Project Repat quilt, I don't really care too much.

Front of the tee, bling and bib

They had a ton of these silicon bracelets with the shirts for runners to grab

Looking back over my data, it looks like I was able to pretty much stick to my game plan. As you can see, the elevation wasn't terrible, but the slow and steady climb definitely "did me in" on the fifth mile. Overall, I've gotta be STOKED with a 7.5 second PR (my previous 10K personal record was an accidental PR at the Disneyland 10K) with my sixth full marathon in less than a week - which reminds me, gotta start hydrating NOW thanks to those warm Santa Anas!

Overall I am extremely pleased with the way the day played out

Pretty consistent when taking the elevation into account

It doesn't look like much, but the uphills the last half never seemed to quit

Source
And, hey, overall I didn't do too shabby... Especially with such a FAST crowd in the San Diego area!

What do YOU think about while you are running?

Fraudulent Charges And Finger Pointing

I will be the first to admit it, I LOVE TECHNOLOGY... That is, when it works the way it is supposed to. But, man, if our Internet goes down or my phone starts acting up, I can throw a mean tizzy!

Anywho, along the same lines, I hate it when people/ companies won't own up to a wrong and take responsibility. When folks point the finger and try to shift blame it REALLY irks me... ESPECIALLY when it comes to me and my money...

Case in point:

Two Septembers ago I saw a cute Avengers Ugly Christmas Sweater on zulily. I thought it would be PERFECT for the runDisney Avengers race so ordered it. A week or so before the race it still hadn't shipped, so I called and cancelled the order. THAT WAS THE ONLY INTERACTION I HAVE HAD WITH zulily UNTIL LAST WEEK!

I think my last minute Thor costume turned out decently so
it wasn't the end of the world when the top didn't arrive in time.

Two Sundays ago I had to work at 6am so I got up at 5:30am and checked my email. I saw one that came in around 2am from zulily saying someone had attempted to change the email address associated with my account... but NOT to worry because they deleted the payment information linked to my account.

I added the asterisks so you can see EXACTLY where they said the payment methods would be REMOVED!
Also, I blacked out the email address to protect everyone's identity...

Well, apparently that was a LIE because around 3, 3:30 and 4am I received additional emails from zulily with orders FRAUDULENTLY made on my account (using my PayPal to pay for them, which is how I paid for the original purchase that was refunded when it wasn't delivered).

The emails just kept coming...

As soon as I saw that I logged into my PayPal account to dispute the charges.

Immediately logged into my account to dispute the charges and change all of my security features

Then I called zulily to report the issue and fraudulent activity. I spoke with a floor manager who said that she would be submitting "unauthorized transaction forms" to the finance department so I could be issued refunds and have my account closed. She told me to dispute the charges with PayPal as well, to which I told her I had already started that process.

Pre-approved?! Oh HECK NO!

Well, over a week goes by and I don't hear anything from either company... Yesterday morning I finally receive an email from PayPal. It stated that because at one point I had a legit transaction from zulily, zulily was then put on the authorized merchant list for my account and therefore I cannot claim any transactions are fraudulent (EX-SQUEEZE ME?!).

Shut the front door... Because at one point I made a purchase from them, no future transactions can be fraudulent?!

So then I call zulily and ask them what's going on. The associate I speak with tells me that they would never issue me a refund and that I would need to go through my bank seeing as the money was taken from my SAVINGS ACCOUNT. I told them that was NOT what I was told or else I would have been at the bank as soon as it opened last Monday morning to get it straightened out (instead I ended up having to go over there yesterday and spend an hour not only disputing the fraudulent charges but also closing the original savings account and having to open a new one). I also asked if I could speak with someone in the finance department but was told "they have done their stuff, you can't talk to them".

Both companies simply point the finger at the other AND I AM STILL OUT THE $300! As of now my bank has issued me a temporary credit for the transactions while they do another investigation into the fraudulent charges.

Source

If you know me, you know I try to be as kind, level-headed and respectful, so please do not think I got on the phone and started ripping into people. I understand that there are policies and procedures in place, but I am so confused as to why you are told one thing by one person and then something completely different by someone else... Not only that, but no one is taking responsibility. Someone is stealing from ME and I am made out to be the bad guy that has to jump through all of these hoops to get my own money back... Something ain't right with that!

Source

zulily is not out the product because I called them before they shipped anything to make sure the transactions were cancelled, so they still have whatever this hacker ordered. If they still have the product, then PayPal shouldn't be refusing to refund me MY money, right?!

Like I said, I have never actually received anything from zulily and now NEVER plan on ordering from them in the future. As far as PayPal, if I have a choice, I will NEVER use their services again either.

WHAT A HEADACHE!

Have you ever had to deal with fraudulent charges on one of your accounts?

Hallmark Channel's Kitten Bowl

A few weeks ago the Hallmark Channel reached out to me Walt the Wiener Dog to see if we he would like to help spread the word about a few things. When I asked Walt about it, I got quite the perplexed look in return...

"Ex-squeeze me?! I am not a blogger, what do they want from ME?!"

But then, when I told him there would be treats and toys involved, he was ALL for it!

You see, Hallmark Channel will be hosting their Third Annual Kitten Bowl this Sunday, February 7th at 12pm. Not only have they asked Walt to help promote the program, they also recruited the help of Happy The Dog and Happy The Cat. And, well, because The Happys are just so happy (and kind), they sent Walt a care package to stoke him out and get him pumped for the Kitten Bowl!

Posing ever so proud with all his presents!

It didn't take him long to dive in!

And a football shaped cookie made for dogs?! YES PLEASE!

Walt was so excited about all of his loot that he BEGGED us to take him to the park and let him play with it all (well, he thinks it's "playing", but he is really a DESTRUCT-O doggy, so, to everyone else, it just looks like a lot of chaos). And if you see his sweet puppy-dog eyes, it's hard to tell him no. Thankfully the hubby and I were both off at 2pm on this past Friday and were able to take him to the park to play a little pigskin while we still had some decent temps and sunshine.

I promise, although his face may say otherwise, he was STOKED!

The hubby says Walt looks "regal", but I think he just looks like he's fed
up with my picture taking shenanigans...

We were able to make a little video of Walt in action. Not only did he get to score a couple of touchdowns, he also enjoyed some nice halftime refreshments and even a post-game celebratory cookie!

Walt is paws-atively pumped to spread the word of the Kitten Bowl, as well as the mission of the Happys! Happy the Dog is a rescue pup, just like Walt, and knows first hand that rescuing a pet welcomes a whole new world of love into the lives of everyone involved (and, well, that's nothing to bark at!). The Happys try their darnedest to raise awareness for the plight of the millions of animals who are in shelters or on the streets and are in need of rescue and adoption; now that's a PAWesome purpose!

So don't procrastinate.... Put the Kitten Bowl in your calendar for Sunday RIGHT MEOW!

Will you tune in to the Kitten Bowl? And, on a scale of 1 to 10, how corny were my animal puns?

Immediate Results

Let's be real. Wouldn't it be great if we saw results immediately? [But only in a positive way, DUH!]

I would be much more willing to do my core work every day if I saw a 6-pack appear the following morning. And would be way happier about eating healthy if the extra fat in my body GOT THE HECK OUT (or at least went to the "proper" places in my body) within 24 hours. I can't be the only one who feels this way, right?!

Source
PS The "F" stands for FRICK (at least in my version)

Source

Now, obviously I wouldn't want it to work the other way - like if I ate really crappy or skipped my workouts for a week I wouldn't want to physically be able to tell. I mean, if this is my ideal world, I would have the option to make these types of immediate results be one-sided.

Source

Because, man alive, sometimes it is tough to stick to a plan - whether it is eating healthy, hitting a certain step count, drinking more water, going for a set number of runs a week, etc. Wait, what do THEY say?! "If it was easy, everyone would be doing it." Well, shoot, I would prefer it to be easy and for everyone to be doing it! But I guess until I am the one making the decisions on those sorts of things, we just gotta keep putting in the work - no matter how tough it may be!

Source

If you could choose immediate results on one thing, what would it be?
