Instagram, Why Do You Do Us Like That?!

Is anyone else as frustrated with the new algorithm that Instagram has instated?! Or is it just me?! Don't get me wrong, I still love Instagram (mostly because I feel as though it is the most positive social media platform that I engage with my friends on), but let's just say the new "we will show you the posts that WE feel you should like" thing is NOT my jam!

I don't understand why you need to go and mess around with a good thing... If it's not broke, don't fix it! Instagram seemed to be working just fine before, but then they went and screwed it up. And from the sounds of it, the change has ruffled quite a few feathers and less and less folks are using the platform now - which is quite the bummer!

Don't you think I'm intelligent enough to follow the accounts I want to see?! I mean, if I like an account, I want to see their stuff. If I don't like an account, I won't follow it. Why is it that you think your crazy equation is smarter than me?!

I'd LOVE it if we could go back to the chronological order that we had before. Or at least give us, the users, the option to decide how we want to have our timeline's organized (whether that's by what IG 'thinks' is best or how we choose)!

Now, I am in no way trying to toot my own horn, but I have a decent following on Instagram. With that said, I feel like less and less of my friends are actually seeing my content which is pretty LAMESAUCE if you ask me! And not only do I care that you aren't seeing my posts, but I am EXTRA bummed because I am missing out on some of yours!

I know, I know, no one likes change... But I don't think I dislike this update only for change sake... I dislike it because it is CRAPTASTIC! I spend more time having to go back and search for friends' profiles and see which images I missed than anything I am gaining with the new "organization". Give us back our previous timelines (and while you are at it, you might as well switch the logo back because it is a little too girly for my liking ;)).

What I really don't understand is why Instagram made the change in the first place. Is it so that they can sneak in more ads and sponsored posts without us noticing? Why not do what Twitter does and have a mini section of "What you may have missed..." and show some of the posts from users you frequently interact with? Or why not have a "Suggested" tab if they want to offer you ideas of accounts or hashtags you "should be" following? Why not let us pick?

Oh well, #FirstWorldProblems. And with that I am done whining voicing my opinion... I just wish that the next time my favorite social media platform decides to do a big overhaul that they ask my thoughts first :) Please and Thank You!

Have you noticed a change in your Instagram engagement?

I miss know when I got to a heart in my feed that it meant I was all caught up - now I never know what I am/might be missing. I feel like I'm constantly seeking out posts that I might have missed.

I'm getting really good engagement (for me) on one account (@breeleachphotography - I guess Disney and beaches are popular :)), but not as much as on the other account (@bleach226 which is my personal account... aka mostly fitness and friends, haha). I don't understand the new algorithm at all.

OMG yes! I feel like I don't see your posts anymore unless I go look at your user profile page. The same thing has happened to a bunch of my other runner buddies--where did the posts go?

On the other side, a bunch of BibRave Pros were also just noticing their posts are getting fewer likes and comments, which probably means fewer eyeballs.

I would have thought Instagram could learn from Facebook's mistakes--remember how much we all hated the new "we show you what we want" process, changed our settings, and griped--but apparently not. What the heck!

It's awful. It's not a good algorithm and I'll see things I've already seen and think I'm caught up. NOPE! I want it to back to chronological format or let us opt out! I agree it's the most positive! I left Facebook over a year ago because a-it became out of order (gee common thread when Facebook takes over :/) and b- it was all complaining. Instagram was so uplifting! And now it's anxiety causing. Algorithms cause FOMO and FOMO is unnecessary anxiety Instagram! Stop messing with my feelings!

I can't stand it either. I'm missing so many posts I used to see, and it's hurt my likes big time. I can't figure out the logic of this new algorithm... maybe because there sin't any?!

IG peeps should take your pic from your blog "keep instagram chronological" and just start posting it. i too HATE the new format. and there are WAY too many sponsored ads.

I hate, hate, hate the new algorithm. I don't know anyone who likes it.

If they are going to FORCE the change on users, at the very least they could give us the option to decide how we want to see it... but instead they don't and it keeps hiding posts from people I miss seeing! It's like okay, I get what they're trying to do here, but what if I don't care what's "trending" and instead just want to catch up with my IG friends--ALL of them?

I have been missing out on so much. I found (an annoying) solution to the suck: I went to your main page on IG, upper right hand corner, there are 3 dots. I clicked on that and turned on post notifications.

+ I don't miss what you and my other favorites are posting

- my phone blows up with notifications all day

Can't appreciate the sweet without the sour I guess? #tryingtofindthepositive

I couldn't agree with you more. What I hate most is that I can't keep track anymore of what I've seen and what I haven't seen.... by switching the algorithm, I have to actively remember to check out certain accounts or else I miss someone's post. It's so lame.

Also, yes to getting the old logo back.

Why do companies think they have to overhaul things that are obviously working ? I DON'T GET IT.
