Marriage Thoughts

5 Things No One Ever Tells You About Marriage

Marriage is tough, sister. Some of this you know, like nixing the idea that towels will be folded a certain way, tolerating game night with the boys, or if you're a guy, maybe you've heard there will be love stories on your plasma TV. But it's tough in other ways that no one really talks about at weddings. Here are five tough things about marriage that every married person knows, along with how to be tough right back and kick ass anyway.
1. MARRIAGE IS NOT FAIR
Marriage isn't fair. It's not equal. At any given time someone is getting more than their share of the good stuff, and someone is picking up more than their share of the crap end of the stick. This is just life -- it's not a perfectly balanced teeter totter, and it never will be. Surprise!
Think of a game of teeter totter where the goal is to stay balanced the whole time, with both people's toes touching. No one dips, and no one floats. Whenever someone starts to go up, the falling person whines and crabs about how unfair it is and the rising person feels guilty and nervous. Super fun, right? NO. The point of teeter totter is the joy of rising, the anticipation of falling, and the fact that you work together to keep the cycle moving.
So deal with it. Don't spend any time tallying up how much slack you're picking up so you can demand to be repaid. Just ride the flippin' teeter totter, do your part pushing, and trust your partner not to bump you off when you're on top.

Thankful Thursday

My Job [Although most days I would rather be 'retired', I have to say, I have a pretty great jobs with lots of amazing perks. For example, this past Monday I went up to Disneyland with my boss' wife and three kids (their 3 year old daughter and 2 nieces visiting from Israel) instead of going to the office. And a few months ago we got some money towards our Hawaiian vacation. Don't get me wrong, I would love be a stay-at-home wife, but having two incomes and a great employer is awesome as well.]

My Bicycle [My 'trainer' mentioned something a couple weeks ago that I had never really thought of before. He asked me what my goal time was for my half marathon. I told him 2.5 hours. He then asked me if I have ever worked out that long before. I told him no (of course not, right?!). He suggested that Ryan and I start biking on the weekends together for that long (we started at 1.5 hours and every weekend are adding an extra .25 hours) so that my body gets used to going for that long and then when I switch from biking to running that long my body will just adjust the muscles that it uses, but it won't be as big of a shock as going from working out for maybe 60 minutes to 150 minutes.]

Rainbow Sherbet [It is just so refreshing and yummy. Ryan will try and talk me into going to the grocery store and getting ice cream probably once a week. Normally I can hold him off for a week or two. But when we end up going and looking at all the choices, 99% of the time I end up with my staple :) ]

Comeback

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford wins 'Comeback' ESPY award

Stafford thanks teammates, says city is going through its own comeback

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has won the “Comeback Player of the Year” award at the ESPYS.
During his speech Wednesday night at the event in Los Angeles, he gave a big shout out to the city.
“I just want to say how happy I am, how grateful I am to share this with the city of Detroit, which is on a comeback of its own, doing great things. It’s been through a lot,” Stafford said. “They city has been through a lot and we’re just one of the teams there trying to make them happy and proud, give them something to cheer for. So, this one is for my teammates and the city of Detroit. Thank you.”

Pizza and Photos

Last night Ryan and I tried a new pizza place (well, new to us, not new in general) called Paradise Pizza. While we were waiting we had an impromptu photo shoot.

The pizza was yummy, but I would definitely say it is an order and pick-up kind of place, not sit there and wait while they make it and then eat it there.

PS They have a lot of Gluten-Free items, so if your diet specifies things like that, I would definitely check them out. They even have Gluten-Free Dessert Cinnamon Rolls.

Thankful Thursday

Days Off In The Middle Of The Week [Although the weather around here was craptastic (I think maybe 60, grey, and misty), at least I wasn't in the office. I was able to get quite a few chores done - like laundry, groceries, vacuuming, working out, etc. And I even got to sleep in on a random Wednesday.]

Smoothies [I have been making smoothies for breakfast now for a good few months. They are so tasty and a way to sneak in a few more servings of fruit for my hubby :). I haven't changed up the ingredients lately, but maybe I will start looking around on Pinterest for some new ideas.]

Work-Out Gear [Since I have been working out more and more, I am really loving my work-out attire. I don't have that much of it, which means I get to go shopping soon to pick up more. I love the bright colors and fun patterns that are out there. And I also love it when I find it on sale, haha.]
