Another sports post :).

Just wanted to post that I got some more Padres tickets from my company for the game on Friday against the New York Mets. They aren't the seats that we normally give out to our vendors (like row 18 on the first base line), but they are still fun (I actually got them with a parking pass from one of the vendors that we get supplies from). The seats are right behind home plate, but three levels up :) Petco really doesn't have any bad seats in it. Maybe we will even eat some yummy garlic fries :). I am sure I will have a few pictures to post from it. Friday is Fiesta con los Padres Concert presented by ampm and brought to you by Uniradio. Maybe I'll learn how to salsa :)

Flip Saunders out as Pistons coach

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Flip Saunders was fired as Detroit Pistons coach today, four days after his team was eliminated by the Boston Celtics [team stats] in the Eastern Conference finals.

President of basketball operations Joe Dumars said it’s "time for a new voice to lead our team." Saunders had a year left on a four-year deal he signed in 2005. The decision comes three years after Saunders took over for Larry Brown, who led the Pistons to two straight NBA finals.

"Decisions like this are difficult to make, especially with the success we have had throughout the last three regular seasons," Dumars said in a statement. "However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change."

A message left for Saunders was not immediately returned. Dumars was to speak today at the team’s practice facility.

Grrrr

So I am sure you have all read the stories (if you didn't stay up that late to watch the game) and know that the Wings lost the game last night in triple overtime. Ryan and I had our pre-marriage class from 7-9 so I don't get home till about 9:45 on Monday nights. At our break around 8:00pm last night I checked my voicemail and had a harassing (just kidding) voicemail from a Pittsburgh fan informing me about going into overtime. Then when we got out of class Ryan's parents had left him a message saying we were in double overtime. I tried to get the game on the radio (I went through ALL the FM and AM stations and NOTHING) so about 5 minutes before I got home I called Ryan to see the update. He called his parents (because he was at the grocery store) and they told him we were going into triple overtime (which I thought would work out well because I would be home to watch). I got home, walked into the door, turned on the game and low and behold Pittsburgh scored. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR. At least we have two more games to win the cup... COME ON BOYS!

Red Wings core players a win away from Cup No. 4

DETROIT (AP) -- Hold off on those parade plans.

That's the message from Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brian Rafalski, who knows something about the pressure of finishing off a Stanley Cup championship: He won twice with the New Jersey Devils and saw one chance slip away in agonizing fashion.

"There's still a lot of work to do," Rafalski said Sunday. "I've learned that. I've lost one."

Detroit will get its first of three chances to win a fourth title in 11 seasons -- and 11th in franchise history -- on Monday night at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

As a rookie in the 2000 Stanley Cup finals, Rafalski and the Devils went up 3-1 against the Dallas Stars and were pushed to a Game 6.

The next year, Rafalski was within a win of repeating only to lose it as the Colorado Avalanche took the last two games and snatched the Cup away from him and the Devils.

In 2003, New Jersey was ahead 3-2 against the Mike Babcock-led Anaheim Ducks before beating them in Game 7.

"You've got to get that fourth game," Rafalski said simply.

KFC Victory in Canada

For more than five years, PETA has been pressuring fast-food chain KFC to stop the worst abuses of chickens, like scalding birds to death, slitting their throats while they're still conscious, and drugging and breeding them to grow so large that they cripple beneath their own weight. Now PETA has scored a major victory and is ending its Kentucky Fried Cruelty boycott in Canada. The boycott will continue in other countries where KFC has restaurants, including the United States, until they follow KFC Canada's lead.

Following months of closed-door negotiations between PETA and KFC Canada (which is owned by a different company than KFC restaurants in other countries), we are thrilled to announce that KFC Canada has agreed to a historic new animal welfare plan that will dramatically improve the lives and deaths of millions of chickens killed for KFC Canada. The company will take the following actions:

**Phase in purchases of 100 percent of its chickens from suppliers that use controlled-atmosphere killing (CAK)—the least cruel form of poultry slaughter ever developed. KFC Canada is the first major restaurant chain to commit to phasing in the exclusive purchasing of chicken meat from CAK slaughterhouses.
**Add a vegan faux-chicken item to the menu of all 461 Priszm-owned KFC restaurants (more than half of all the KFCs in Canada).
**Improve its animal welfare audit criteria to reduce the number of broken bones and other injuries suffered by birds.
**Urge its suppliers to adopt better practices, including improved lighting, lower stocking density and ammonia levels, and a phaseout of growth-promoting drugs and breeding practices that painfully cripple chickens.
**Form an animal welfare advisory panel to monitor the changes and recommend further advancements.
