Had such a great time reconnecting with friends from college yesterday. Meg and Brandon were in town (Venice and then San Diego) for their 1 year wedding anniversary and a family wedding - and we were lucky enough to grab some of their time.
We picked them from the place they were staying around 11am. They wanted to check out our neck of the woods (just in case they think about moving westward). On the way back up to Oceanside we stopped along some sites (Swami's surf spot, DAV Thrift Store, Swami's Cafe for lunch, etc). They were able to meet Walt The Wiener Dog (they are both dog lovers and had a great time with him). Then we went down to the beach so that Ryan could push Brandon into some waves. They had to head back to San Diego around 6pm to go to a family BBQ, but we had a great time during the few hours we were able to hang out.
Isn't it great when years pass and you see each other again it is like just yesterday - no awkward silences, just jumping back into conversations like you did before?! [Obviously we WISH years didn't pass between our hang outs - and we will TRY to make sure that never happens again - but if it does happen, it is great knowing that you can just fall back in where you left off and everything is still amazing. True friendship!]
Maybe one day soon we will be neighbors again - whether that is in Oceanside or Detroit :)

We have had a tropical depression sitting overtop of San Diego for the last week or two - which has caused a heat and humidity wave (so much so that they pushed up the start time of my half marathon tomorrow because of the "grossness" outside). It has been hard to do a lot of outdoor activity, but I have still managed to get my workouts in. (BAD Idea - Thursday Ryan and I didn't make it out for our bike ride until about 10:30am, so it was already in the high 70s and then when we finished, got the pup, and headed up to the park it was in the 80s with HIGH humidity when I was doing another 2 mile run - AWFULLY SWEATY!) I have done a couple of two-a-day workouts, which have been nice.
Ryan and I had to switch around our long runs this week. Sunday was supposed to be 3 and then tomorrow was going to be 9.5, but since I have a half marathon, I figured Ryan wouldn't want to do his 9.5 miles on his own, so we swapped weeks. He has been doing great with his long runs!! Can't believe our half marathon is less than 2 months away (HURRAY FOR THE BEARD LEAVING THEN TOO :) ).
Same Outfit 40 Years
A Yearbook Legend: Teacher Wears Same Outfit in 40 Photos
Dale Irby is a creature of habit. The Dallas, Texas, physical education teacher wore the exact same polyester shirt and knit sweater vest for the past 40 years of yearbook photos.
Irby's work wardrobe consisted mainly of athletic clothes. With few formal options, he chose the shirt and sweater combo for his first yearbook photo in 1973. The following year, he accidentally repeated the outfit, he told the Dallas Morning News.
“I was so embarrassed when I got the school pictures back that second year and realized I had worn the very same thing as the first year,” he said.
His wife, Cathy, a language arts teacher, dared him to repeat the outfit for his third yearbook photo. Irby thought it would be funny to extend the prank for five years. “After five pictures,” he said, “It was like, ‘Why stop?’”
This video, compiled by the Dallas Morning News, depicts the 40 nearly identical yearbook photos. Irby says the shirt still buttons if he "sucks it in a little."
Without any yearbook photos in his future, Irby says he's ready to retire the ensemble.

Toledo Streets (are HUNGRY)
Sinkhole Swallows Car In Toledo; Driver Escapes
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Police in northwest Ohio say a sinkhole swallowed a car traveling down a Toledo street and briefly trapped the driver, who climbed out when authorities provided a ladder.
Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan says a water main break beneath that road may have caused the sinkhole Wednesday. The hole is estimated to be at least 10 feet deep.
Police say the driver, 60-year-old Pamela Knox of Toledo, was shaken up and didn't appear hurt but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Heffernan says Knox saw the vehicle in front of her start to slip into the hole but drive beyond it. He says Knox couldn't avoid it.
Officials used a crane to pull the car from the hole. Repairs to the road are expected to take days.

Happy Birthday Oceanside!!
Last night Ryan, Walt and I went over to watch the Oceanside Birthday Fireworks (Oceanside is 125 years old as of yesterday!). We weren't sure how Walt would do with the loud bangs, so instead of going to the park with all the other spectators we parked in the driveway of a nearby nursery (quick in-and-out, especially if we needed to peace out a little early because we had a sad or scared pup). We brought some towels to sit on in the truck bed and Walt's bed so he had a comfy spot to lay. I also grabbed a bone that he could gnaw on, hopefully to keep his mind off of the fireworks. The firework show was AWESOME. And our viewing spot was PERFECT! Walt did great - he barked at the first couple, and gruffed a little at some of the super loud ones, but other than that just laid next to us in the back. We had a great night!! Thanks OSide for putting on the firework show - you got 4 thumbs and 4 paws up from this clan :)
Happy Birthday Oceanside!!

Dancing With God
I received this in an email today and thought it was something worth passing along:
When I meditated on the word Guidance, I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word. I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing. When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky. When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction or another. It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully. The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other. My eyes drew back to the word Guidance. When I saw "G": I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i". "God, "u" and "i" dance." God, you, and I dance. As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life. Once again, I became willing to let God lead. My prayer for you today is that God's blessings and mercies are upon you on this day and everyday. May you abide in God, as God abides in you. Dance together with God, trusting God to lead and to guide you through each season of your life. This prayer is powerful and there is nothing attached.
Here's to dancing through 2013!
