Walt Wednesday

Some people do a "Wordless Wednesday" post, where they simply share a photo or image, but I thought I'd make a little series out of my Wednesdays. And since I love alliteration so much, why not go with Walt Wednesdays (obviously everyone can use a little break from the seriousness, scariness and sassiness of life - and what better way to help put a smile on your face than with a cute wiener dog picture, am I right?!)... So, without further ado...

WALT WEDNESDAY!

I'll have a Twelve Days of Yeti recap once it's over, but if you aren't following me on social media (@CarleeMcDot), then you'll just have to trust that some of the workouts have been a bit unconventional and have pushed me outside of my routine. I can't say all of them will stick around, but I love that it's been mixing things up. I've also been using it more as a suggestion, so I've been getting in the workouts, but then adding in some additional miles if I feel like I want/ need to. With that said, I'm pretty pumped I was able to get in another 60+ mile week (at the same time as working 40 hours a week and getting holiday preparations in order!). Next week might be a bit of a cutback week, we'll just have to see how I'm feeling.

How were your workouts this past week?

Gingerbread House Day

Did you know this past Saturday was Gingerbread House Day? (Apparently it isn't important enough to be considered a National or International "holiday" {who comes up with them or deems them 'worthy' anyway?!}, but a day nonetheless ;))

We were both pretty proud of our creations. Doesn't Ryan's sort of look like a face?!

You may not know this, but I wear many hats at the running store I work at. One of them is to fill out our calendar. Seeing as there are currently no races/events, the monthly calendar (since April) has turned into a list of random food 'holidays'.

Last year the hubby and I actually grabbed gingerbread house kits (tiny homes - they were so cute and cheap ;)), so when I saw it on the calendar you know I had to tell the hubby it was time to bust out the boxes and get our creativity on.

I mean, how stinkin' cute is that?!

#RealTalk - We normally do this every year and turn it into a competition of sorts. We both decorate our own gingerbread house (from identical kits, limited to what is included in the boxes... we are unable to bring in outside accoutrements to 'spice' up the design) and then send pictures to some family/ friends to vote on the winner. I sorta love this silly tradition!

So Saturday afternoon we poured some drinks (pineapple-coconut nectar with pineapple rum... not totally a winter drink, but we live in SoCal, so give us a break ;)), got everything we thought we'd need and pumped up the Christmas jams.

And, seeing as it was a Saturday afternoon, we obviously had to have college football on in the background too!

Well, let's just say that saving a few extra dollars might not have been all it was cracked up to be because the frosting (aka the glue that is meant to hold the whole structure together) was pretty rock hard, the fondant we were supposed to use for some of the accents was crumbling apart and the icing for the roof had chunks in it... but, like I try to remind the hubby whenever something unexpected comes up, "it's all part of the fun and adventure!". We did our best with what we had (putting the frosting bags in hot water to try and make them softer, microwaving some of the icing to make it a bit more spreadable, etc) and in the end it wasn't too terrible. [PRO TIP - If you are going to buy the kits when they go on sale and save them for the future, pick up a tub of new frosting when you're ready to have on hand in case it's needed.]

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

If you looked at the top image (or if you know our personalities), you've probably figured out who's is whos, but we still put a poll out to the social media world to see who was going to win. In the end, it wasn't even close, but we both had a blast!

And, if truth be told, the debacle of the less-than-perfect building materials helped to solidify the memory that much more, so you better believe come December 26th I'll have my eyes peeled for some sale gingerbread kits ;)

Do you build gingerbread houses?

Workout Recap - Week 50

Sunday, December 6th – 15.15 mile run

Monday, December 7th – 90 minutes on the stationary bike

Tuesday, December 8th – 13.13 mile run

Wednesday, December 9th – 10.10 mile run

Thursday, December 10th – Rest Day

Friday, December 11th – 13.13 mile run

Saturday, December 12th – 18.18 mile run

Almost 70 miles for the week?! I should've run an extra .31 to bump it up had I known, hehe. But in all honesty, I'm stoked at home I'm feeling. Sure, I'm a bit tired, but that makes sense. My body doesn't feel terrible at all (I have some fibromyalgia pain in a couple of the toes on my right foot, random, I know, but other than that things feel fine!). I realized this past week that I technically have about 90 days until my next race, a 50K, and I should probably start getting in higher mileage. Not sure if it'll be cancelled, postponed or go on as scheduled, but in case we're able to run it, I wanna be ready.

How were your workouts this past week?

My Michelob Ultra CEO Application

A few weeks ago a friend sent a text saying, "I found the PERFECT job for you...". I clicked the link (don't worry, I don't click links from folks I don't know ;)) and my eyes just about popped out of my head! It literally WAS the best job for me.

Source

If you have been around my corner of the InterWebs for any amount of time, you hopefully know this would be right up my alley! I mean, I'm sure anyone would LOVE an opportunity like this, but it was legit whispering screaming my name!

Source

To apply to be the Michelob Ultra Chief Exploration Officer, I needed to write why I would be the perfect person for the role. Thankfully I have an AMAZING friend who helps people sound good as part of his job and he offered his assistance!

Source

We went back and forth and I finally felt confident in what I we had put together. (#RealTalk - I have a hard time "tooting my own horn" and find it difficult to talk about myself, but realize I had to lay out why I legitimately was the best for the role.) I mustered up all my courage and got ready to hit submit... then I got an error! Somehow I was under the impression that the limit was 500 WORDS... and it was 500 CHARACTERS! Let's just say that is a HUGE difference! I'm thankful it errored and didn't allow me to submit the 2800+ character essay and automatically disqualify me for not following directions, but still, it was a bit of a shocker! With that said, I still thought I would share what I we wrote and edited ;).
Talk about a dream job! This literally has my name all over it! Maybe not literally, since my names Carlee, but you can call me CEO, Carlee the Enthusiastic Outdoorsperson!
Im a 36-year-old plant-based ultra runner who loves the outdoors. My hubby, pup (Walt the Wiener Dog) and I love all things camping/hiking/exploring—and doing it responsibly. We just returned from a birthday adventure at Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. During the three days, we ran over 20 miles, gained over 4,150 feet in elevation, hiked The Narrows, connected with mother nature and captured some awe-inspiring photos and content for social. It was absolutely AMAZEBALLS!
Leading up to my 36th birthday two weeks ago, I did 36 days of intentional acts of kindness (an annual endeavor). If selected, Id love to be able to do something similar by focusing on protecting our National Parks—possibly volunteering or bringing awareness to issues the parks or local areas are facing.
Whether Im in wide-open spaces, or driving from one park to the next, adventure is my middle name (okay, you got me again, its René) and this epic journey is right up my alley! My hubby and I have an Adventure Mobile and love using it to explore the wild blue yonder. Being able to hit the open road and find adventure is something we love doing—whether its for 3 weeks or 6 months (DREAM!).
My top two recent National Park adventures are: running the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim {because 50 miles of being totally self-sufficient through complete darkness, difficult terrain and absolute isolation reinforces that you can handle anything} and tackling Half Dome {because the cables are scary and the rock is iconic}.
Im passionate about running, caring for the environment (and inspiring others to do so as well), living life to the fullest, and championing conservation and sustainable living. I love advocating for others—whether thats raising over $1,000 in less than two weeks for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, spearheading clean-ups on local trails or donating to indigenous tribes to secure essential items unavailable on their reservation during COVID.
If Im selected for this dream role, not only would I shout my experience from the mountain tops, but Id also look forward to influencing others to discover their own recreational adventure. Hopefully my enthusiasm and excitement for traveling will inspire them to opt outside—even if its at a local campground or nearby park.
Im confident I am the perfect person for this position and am 100% committed. I could have my bags packed tomorrow! I work at my local mom-and-pop running store, and theyd be absolutely stoked about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If you go another direction, I want to genuinely wish you the best of luck. Just being able to apply is FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC! Thanks so much for this opportunity.
Eventually I was able to submit 500 characters (I mean, honestly, it could take me 500 words just to say my name, I don't know how other applicants did it, but I guess if Michelob is getting a billion and a half submissions {and why wouldn't they for an amazing opportunity like this?!} 500 characters could still take a very long time to read).
Call me CEO, Carlee the Enthusiastic Outdoorsperson!
I’m a plant-based ultra runner who loves the outdoors (& doing it responsibly). I just returned from Bryce Canyon & Zion—in 3 days I ran 20 miles, gained 4150”, hiked The Narrows & captured epic content.
Kindness & inspiring others are my JAM. My top NP adventure was running the Grand Canyon—50 miles of self-sufficiency in darkness, isolation & on difficult terrain reinforces that you can handle anything.
This epic journey is calling me!
Yesterday I was told I didn't make the cut... I knew it was a shot in the dark, but I always say someone has to get it, why not me?! I mean, a few years ago I entered a giveaway from Dole, the banana company, and won a trip to Costa Rica!

Ziplining in the rain forest?! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! We were two lucky ducks!

I may not be the new CEO, but that doesn't mean my love for the National Parks will dwindle. You never know what will happen when you put yourself out there... but I do know that had I never applied I absolutely would NOT have gotten it.

PS I also have to say a HUGE thanks to another friend who has been on the Michelob Ultra Running Team and passed along my name and info to her contact. Sometimes it's all about who you know... and I know some AMAZING people!

Have you stepped outside of your comfort zone recently? How did it work out for you?
