Sawed Off Bat

Justin Verlander’s triple-digit fastball destroys Gordon Beckham’s bat on check-swing

Justin Verlander attributed his poor All-Star game performance to his desire to entertain fans with triple-digit readings on the radar gun.
However, on Friday night in Detroit, the reigning American League MVP and Cy Young winner didn't have to dig down deep or sacrifice command to hit the century mark. He was reaching it free and easy from the first inning, all the way to the eighth in the Tigers important 4-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
In fact, it was one of those sizzling eighth inning fastballs that provided all of the jaw-dropping entertainment Verlander was hoping to provide in Kansas City, and it also left Gordon Beckham with a feeling he won't soon forget.
Here's a look at the pitch and result we're talking about:
That's right, Verlander's 116th pitch of the evening was another 100 mph fastball, and it completely sawed off Beckham's bat... on a check-swing.

Thankful Thursday

Starting Slow [Although if it was up to me I would have been pushing myself a lot harder, my 'coach' suggested that instead of switching 100% from my gym routines to running outside that I take it slow (adding 5 minutes of jogging outside to my current program). I would much rather be running 100% outside, but also know that if I want to be able to finish my half marathon in 45 days that I am going to need to be injury free. I am glad to have someone giving their suggestions (and knowing what they are talking about).]

Apples [If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, I wonder what two or three will do?! Ryan and I have been on an apple kick lately. He eats his with peanut butter for a snack in the evenings and I will crunch on them throughout the day at work. The crisp, fresh flavor is just lovely. (We have been eating mostly Fuji's.)]

Sugar [Not for me, but for the fairies. They have been awfully hungry lately and I feel like I am filling up the feeder every day or two. We make our own nectar out of sugar and water (My grandma says that the red die can hurt their reproduction, so we opt out of it). I don't know if Chubbs is on vacation, so the other hummers can come eat freely, or if they are just super hungry lately, but man am I glad we are stocked with sugar to keep them around.]

Flying Pigs

My dad is in Cincinnati for the Ohio Pipe Trades Convention. While we was out and about, he took some pictures of the flying pigs on his phone and sent them to me :)

The Campaign

Looks like a movie Ryan would like :)

The official trailer for 'The Campaign' starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as political rivals in a race for Congress in a North Carolina district. Ferrell plays incumbent congressman Cam Brady who makes a major public goof that forces a bunch of wealthy CEOs to put up a rival for his seat in Congress in the form of Galifianakis' Marty Huggins, the director of the local Tourism Center.

Wall Pics

I have shared or other folks have shared with me, some pretty fun pictures on my Facebook Wall the last couple days. If you are on Facebook then you probably have seen them, but just in case you haven't (i.e. my dad :) ) I thought I'd share them here as well.

I LOVE Dandies!!

Oh marriage - it takes work and lots of forgiveness!!

Smile and the world smiles back!!
