Disney Friday

Ryan and I went to Disney on Friday. It was PACKED! When we were driving there the signs said things such as "Disneyland FULL, California Adventure Party Open". We had no idea what was going on, but were hoping that Full didn't mean they weren't going to let us in. We were going to eat in Downtown Disney, but the lines for over an hour and a half wait when you go to put your name in, so we decided to pass and would eat in the park. We got in line to go into the park and heard people murmur about that if you hadn't been in yet that they weren't letting new people in. We were awfully confused. We asked some people what was going on and apparently in California Adventure there was a Trick Or Treat Party with the characters (normally CA Ad closes early, but they were closing at 6 and re-opening at 7:30-11:30 - which meant a ton of more people and half of them dressed up in Halloween costumes). They only had 2 of the gates open to let people in, but after waiting in line for a bit we were finally let in. We decided to grab some fast passes for Big Thunder Railroad (it is so fun at night) and grab some food. It really was FULL! We decided after we rode the ride that we would go wait for the fireworks (it was already about 9 by this time). We got some good seats (well, good pavement to sit on, hehe). THE FIREWORKS WERE SOOOO AWESOME! I told Ryan that I liked them more than the normal fireworks. They had Zero (from Nightmare Before Christmas) flying (instead of Tinkerbell), they had tons of lights on the castle, they had a HUGE ball that they projected Jack and other 'scary' characters on. It was PRETTY COOL. I took a few pictures and a video. The video started going blurry the last few seconds, but I think the first few seconds are pretty cool.

Boondock Saints 2

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is the much-anticipated sequel to the indie cult classic, The Boondock Saints. The film is the continuation of writer/director Troy Duffy’s tough, stylized cutting edge saga of the MacManus brothers (Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flanery). The two have been in deep hiding with their father, Il Duce (Billy Connolly), in the quiet valleys of Ireland, far removed from their former vigilante lives. When word comes that a beloved priest has been killed by sinister forces from deep within the mob, the brothers return to Boston to mount a violent and bloody crusade to bring justice to those responsible. With a new partner in crime (Clifton Collins Jr., Star Trek) and a sexy FBI operative (Julie Benz, TV’s “Dexter”) hot on their trail…the Saints are back!

Julian, CA

I think Ryan and I are planning on driving over to Julian on Sunday. I thought it would be great to see the fall color changes (since we don't notice them living at the beach) and maybe pick some apples while they are in season. Of course we will take TONS of pictures to share with you all.

The area was originally occupied by the Kumeyaay people.

After the American Civil War, Julian experienced a gold rush. This short-lived gold rush was sparked by the discovery of gold in 1869 by a former slave named A.E. "Fred" Coleman.

According to a bronze historical plaque appearing in the town, in the early days of Julian, the majority of San Diego County's African-American population resided in or near the town, including the founders of the Robinson Hotel as well as a noted resident, America Newton. Of the 55 blacks living in San Diego County during the 1880 census, 33 lived in the Julian area. Although this information appears on the plaque, it has been the subject of some controversy.

In recent decades Julian has become a quaint mountain resort. The town narrowly escaped destruction in the 2003 Cedar Fire that burned much of the surrounding area.

8 Phrases That Don't Mean What You Think They Mean

1. I could care less
What you think it means: "I couldn't care less."
What it actually means: You actually do care.

2. It begs the question
Would you think it means: To ask or raise a question
What it actually means: To use an argument that assumes as proved the very thing one is trying to prove.

3. Let's table this
What you think it means: To discuss something later
What it actually means: This is tricky, because in the United States, it means what you think it does. But it means the exact opposite -- "let's discuss this right now" -- in most of the rest of the English-speaking world. Best not to be used in any international setting.

4. I did a 360
What you think it means: Completely changing your opinion.
What it actually means: Your opinion changed, but then changed back to your original opinion.

5. PIN number
What you think it means: A non-repetitive way to refer to your personal identification number
What it actually means: That you're being redundant. Especially when you use your PIN number at the ATM machine.

6. Lion's share
What you think it means: The greatest of multiple shares
What it actually means: You're not technically incorrect, because, over time this has become one of the phrase's definitions. But the phrase originally comes from an Aesop's Fable in which the lion took all -- not the largest -- of the shares. Because that's what lions tend to do.

7. The exception that proves the rule
What you think it means: Any counterexample to a rule proves the rule. For example, if you said you only date blondes, but somebody pointed out the time you dated a brunette, you might say that it is "the exception that proves the rule." This popular usage makes no sense at all.
What it actually means: The idiom actually does make sense -- but you have to think about it along the lines of the exception proves that a rule exists. For example," No parking on Saturdays" would mean that you can park in the spot any other day of the week.

8. I am nauseous.
What you think it means: I have a sick feeling in my stomach.
What it actually means: It depends. Prior to World War II, you'd have been clearly saying, "I make other people sick," and the correct term would have been "I am nauseated." However, over time, the usage has shifted to the point that many language experts have deemed "I am nauseous" as an acceptable explanation of your own queasiness. Just be careful using that term around the old folks' home.
