If you've been around my corner of the InterWebs for any period of time, you know I am just as serious about recovery as I am about training. Rest and self-care are part of the program! And I'm always looking for ways to aid my running, which could be anything from a new stretch to a strength training workout. That's where the Rolflex™ comes in!

Think of Rolflex™ as the foam roller re-imagined. It was designed to provide an easy way to amplify pressure using the power of leverage to effectively apply pressure anywhere on the body, as needed. The intuitive design of the Rolflex™ allows users to relieve the tight overused muscles that come from doing any sport, job or activity. It was specifically designed based on the anatomy and biomechanics of the human body. The unique shape provides awesome leverage with laser-focused pressure without restricting motion, creating an unparalleled therapeutic release of tension.

Coincidentally the hubby was looking for something like this to help his weary climbing muscles. It's difficult to use something like The Stick one handed when trying to roll out your forearms (I'm not always up or available when he gets home from the gym). The Rolflex™ has been a Godsend to him recently and he is STOKED to have been introduced to it! (Although he loves using it for his arms, neck and traps, he has just recently started training for his first full marathon {the 2018 Mesa-PHX Marathon} and has also really appreciated using it on his calves, quads and IT band.)
I personally love using the Rolflex™ in conjunction with my foam roller, but I could totally see it being a one stop shop. Currently I use my roller on my quads and IT band, but then use the Rolflex™ to get more targeted areas like my calves and feet. I've found it easier to use since you don't have to hold your bodyweight up with your arms and simply pinch the contraption to get more leverage and precision. You can really dig in and get those spots that need the attention/ focus.
The website is super helpful. The Rolflex™ has user guides with suggestions on how to use it for different muscles, but the website allows you to click on specific areas on the body you want to target and will pull up instructional videos.
Because both the hubby and I have found it super easy and convenient (although, let's be honest, just like with the foam roller, we tend to have a love/hate relationship with it), we have both been using it very frequently. We will reach for it so we can randomly use it while sitting in the living room watching football or throw it in the car when we head out for a morning run. The hubby even asked if he could "borrow" one so he can keep one with his climbing gear.
In case you haven't been to the website, you may not know that they offer an "Original" and "Pro" model. We have been trying them both out and love each of them! The Pro model has new dual stability rollers to allow for even deeper trigger point therapy and more balanced approach with pinpoint accuracy than the Original—relaxing muscles and alleviating pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. The Pro’s ergonomic design enables you to effectively self-massage over nearly every muscle of the body, including hard-to-reach areas such as elbows and knees.
And because the guys at Rolflex™ are da bomb dot com, they're offering one of YOU a Pro model! Not only that, they will include a one-on-one video call (Skype or FaceTime) for a demo to make sure you're getting the most out of it!

What is your preferred way to recover during your training?
I usually roll out and then wear my pro, compression socks after long runs.
ReplyDeleteUsually I just try not to exert myself, I tried foam rolling once and hated it because I kept falling off the roller when I tried it. This looks like it would be easy to use and hard to screw up....right up my alley lol.
ReplyDeletePro socks and an Epsom salt bath
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at the Roll8 Recovery, but that device scares me. This looks way more useable! I neglect rolling a lot because it's so hard for me to get into those targeted places on my calves unless I have my husband do it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool roller. I roll my muscles out and get a massage on the hydrobed.
ReplyDeleteI like to use compression socks if I’m driving far right after a long run. I try to foam roll after any type of workout but find it hard to get it in a lot of places and usually end up skipping it.
ReplyDeleteI use compression socks during my run and Epsom Salt bath after.
ReplyDeleteI have never foam rolled...Shocking I know!!!
ReplyDeleteI just recently started foam rolling. Always compression socks and depending on mileage, I'll throw a dreaded ice bath into the mix.
ReplyDeleteEven though I don't enjoy it, foam rolling is the best recovery for me. Although, an Epsom salt bath after a long run is nice too!
ReplyDeleteI have a great chiropractor who also does soft tissue work! He is a multiple Ironman finisher so he really “gets” Runner’s! I also do yoga and a essential oil based muscle rub! I was just looking at these things on Amazon!
ReplyDeleteDoes eating all the ice cream as soon as I get home count? Seriously, I am horrible at recovery! If I remember, I foam roll which is usually only when my legs are screaming at me 😬🙈
ReplyDeleteI foam roll once in a while if my legs are particularly sore. It's hard to target my arms with a foam roller so I just try to do a lot of stretching. This looks like it would be really useful for smaller muscles!
ReplyDeleteLots of recovery drink and compression socks.
ReplyDeleteFoam rolling and trying to do some yoga. I found (similar to you after trying to stay walking after your marathon) that staying moving helped recovery so much!
ReplyDeleteI roll out and use tennis balls on tight spots. I also like compression garments. Thank you for sharing this tool!
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate relationship with my current roller...by I think I would be far more likely to use this one! I love taking an epsom salt bath and lounging around in compression socks after a hard workout.
ReplyDeleteIt's usually a variety of things...compression socks, epsom salt baths, and foam rolling. But I am not as good at it as you are Carlee! I'm hoping to keep improving at my recovery game! This would be an awesome addition, and something I've wanted for a long time!
ReplyDeletePro socks and some foam rolling are my go to for recovery!
ReplyDeletePro socks, and stretching. I find the foam roller to collect dust so this might be a better alternative and easy for travel :)
ReplyDeleteI usually foam roll, compression socks and put my legs up on the wall. I love my foam roller, but this thing looks genius!!!
ReplyDeleteI roll, stretch, use compression socks. I try to talk my dog for a walk after a long run too. Keeps me moving and lets us spend more time together.
ReplyDeleteI stretch, foam roll, and use a lacrosse ball on my feet, etc. And eat. :)
ReplyDeleteUsually I foam roll, but my wonderful dog ate my roller lol
ReplyDeleteI stretch, foam roll as do yoga for my recovery,
ReplyDeleteI currently use a stick roller, but I’ve been in the market for something like this. This looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI drink cherry juice and stare at my foam roller and stick hanging out in the corner of my apartment. Sometimes I use my TheraCane when I'm drinking wine ;) - Kim K.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely stretching, less frequently foam rolling and compression socks (ahem!). I could definitely use some help. :)
ReplyDeleteFoam rolling and compression socks!
ReplyDeleteI like taking ice baths (well I don’t actually like them, but I do like how much they help!) and wearing compression socks to bed after a long run.
ReplyDeleteI usually roll with 2 types of rollers. My bad habit is that I only do it after running. I need to make it more of a daily habit and after cross-training stuff too.
ReplyDeleteI am terrible about foam rolling, but I am really good about taking rest days seriously to help my whole body recover!
ReplyDeleteLately ive been preferring a routine of roll, run, stretch, roll, and then ice bath.
ReplyDeleteA hot epsom salts bath and foam rolling
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't use my roller as much as I need to! And that would be great for my arms! I am an office worker, so my arms and neck are terribly tight!
ReplyDeleteI go epsom salt baths for recovery!
ReplyDeleteSleep is probably my number one source of recovery , followed by eating, I need to do a better job of rolling out tight muscles.
ReplyDeleteFoam roller or Tiger Tail are my current go to recovery tools! Oh and drinking lots of water.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE my chiro! He fixes me and gets me back on the road post race!
