Will I Be Running NYC?

In case you were unaware, today was Reaping Day!

Source

Okay, okay, maybe no one was heading to the Hunger Games, but today was the day we found out who would be running (or at least accepted to run) the TCS New York City Marathon.

Source

According to NYRR, 19,083 runners were accepted through the non-guaranteed drawing. That may seem like a HUGE number, but it was actually only 23% of the field that applied... Yup, you read that right, a total of 82,172 non-guaranteed entry drawing applications were processed for the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon. The current estimate is that approximately 50,000 runners are expected to run the race on Sunday, November 6, 2016.

I've gotta say, I've had a lucky streak when it comes to entering race lotteries. I entered one for the Women's Nike Half Marathon in San Francisco, as well as the Big Sur International Marathon and was selected for each of them! So I figured I would throw my name in the hat, pay my $11 lottery fee and cross my fingers.

And, now, the moment you've all been waiting for... BIG MONEY, BIG MONEY...

And the verdict is...

WHAMMY!

I mean, I guess it was bound to happen eventually... Obviously I can't get into EVERY race I apply for, but it's still a bit of a bummer. At least now I know and can start looking at other races and planning the rest of my fall schedule (not to mention, my wallet might have let out a thankful sigh when the $255 registration fee did NOT post to my bank account today...). And all jealousy aside, CONGRATS to each and every one of the 19,000+ runners who were selected today!

Did you enter the lottery?! What was your fate?!

I am sorry to hear you were not accepted. Wow I can not believe how expensive it is to run that races. I always wanted to run the NYC marathon, now I am not to sure if I even want to try.

Rats! Guaranteed entry opened for Chicago today. You need a 3:45. You have a 3:45. Just saying ;)

I threw my name in the lottery for New York, and didn't get picked either. Knowing that only 23% got picked makes me feel a little better. I'll probably try for Chicago this year!

Sorry you weren't selected! I haven't had much luck with the NYRR lotteries, I didn't get drawn for the NYC half this year. I'll be volunteering instead, watching my friends run past me...

NYC marathon will be my FIRST EVER MARATHON this year though!
