Japanese whalers to face new enemy in 'Godzilla'

A controversial animal-rights group preparing to embark on its annual harassment campaign against Japanese whalers has stepped up its effort this season by enlisting the aid of ... Godzilla.

The swift and ominous-looking interceptor vessel has the moniker Gojira, named after the ferocious monster in the legendary Japanese film, which in English means Godzilla.

The 115-foot boat was launched by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society on Monday in Fremantle, Australia, and has joined the larger vessels, Steve Irwin and Bob Barker, in Hobart. At midweek all three will begin their journey to Antarctic waters, where their crews will await the arrival of the Japanese whaling fleet.

Japan also means business. The whaling ships will carry armed members of the Japan Coast Guard to help prevent sabotage by the activists, according to the Japan Times.

Forever Reign

You are peace
You are peace
When my fear is crippling
You are true
You are true
Even in my wandering
You are joy
You are joy
You're the reason that I sing
You are life
You are life
In You death has lost its sting

Oh I'm running to Your arms
I'm running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign

Tink Plane

Katrina and Mike were up in Spokane this past week visiting Mike's family. On the way home to San Diego Katrina saw this plane and thought of me. HOW AWESOME!! A Disney plane! And with Tink! Get it, because she can fly?! I wish I could fly Alaskan Air :)

Sunset Fun

Ryan and I were down on the beach tonight to watch the sunset. After the sun went down we thought we would have some fun with the camera! We would have taken a TON more, but our feet were frozen and the camera ran out of battery :)

This is two Carlee shots (doing a cartwheel and an X jump):

Ryan was jumping and then decided to bring sand into the mix:

Mining for...

Today we went up to Julian to 'mine for gold'. Aaron had looked up a little adventure for us and we all went to check it out. We went to the Smith Ranch to mine for gold and take a train ride. It wasn't exactly what we were expecting, not to mention it was REALLY cold with the 30 mph winds. As always, we made the most of it (and took lots of pictures along the way).

Jamie and I bundled on the train ride to the mine:

Maybe I should have worn more than jeans, a tshirt, and a hoodie (thankfully they had blankets for the train ride):

Rough Life

What a rough life we have had for the past week. Ryan's family is here for Thanksgiving. They rented a house on the beach (LITERALLY we just need to walk down the stairs to the ocean) in Carlsbad and we have been staying here with them. I am sure the pictures say it all :)

What a bad view, huh?

We have the top (third) floor of this house:

And the hot tub and everything are right on the bottom, just for our unit :)

Petting Zoo

Earlier this week we all took the train up to San Juan Capistrano to the petting zoo. The morning weather was less than stellar (raining and cold), but Ryan called and they said that they were open and empty (probably due to the weather, hehe). We took the Amtrak up and walked over to the petting zoo. We bought a few trays of veggies to feed to the animals. Matthew really liked it, especially the pen that you could get in with the guinea pigs and bunnies. Ryan and I have been there twice before, but it was fun actually going with children, haha :). Here are a few pictures from the adventure:

Bombs up the street...

Home of alleged bomb maker in Escondido too dangerous to enter

The house in Escondido in northern San Diego County where large quanities of bomb-making materials have been found remains too dangerous for explosive experts to enter, the County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.

The resident, George Jakubec, 54, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Serbia, remains in jail, charged with possession of explosive devices, possession of bomb-making materials, bank robbery and burglary.

Jakubec has pleaded not guilty, with bail set at $5 million. Prosecutors said he is an unemployed software consultant.

The house came to the attention of authorities when a gardener was hurt in an explosion.

On Sunday, the Sheriff's Department bomb squad entered the house, retreating after seizing evidence that included homemade grenades. On Wednesday, the squad reentered the house, finding it "extremely cluttered, making movement and observation extremely difficult."

In a storage area outside the house, authorities found containers of hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid and 50 pounds of hexamine, a bomb-making material, authorities said.

Also found were blasting caps and a quantity of pentaerythritol tetranitrate, a powerful plastic explosive known as PETN and considered a "weapon of choice" of would-be terrorists including the so-called "shoe-bomber," Richard Reid.
